Let me say something about the moderation on this board

Post by RoundEye »

This may put some things into perspective for those who have grumped about it in the past. The full level of moderation on the MS forum I just joined is insane.

The board is rated “G”. Even the word “ass” shows up as asterisks. Come on man, I think that word is even printed out in the bible.

Private messaging is turned off.

You can’t post an external link or even a picture hosted on your very own web site.

Each and every post you have to wait for a mod to read it before it is displayed. I’ve had numerous post edited or not allowed because of forum rules.

If you even try to question somebody on it they won’t let the post go through or may even delete the entire thread if someone else grumps about it too.

I won’t be an active member there for long, I can see it now. It’s a very informative site for me to learn how to deal with MS but their Gestapo-like moderation is killing me. This might put things into perspective for those of you that have complained about your civil liberties being violated around here.

I wonder if that domain name is registered yet? It might be, but related to Microsoft and not to Multiple Sclerosis.

For a group of people hit so hard by this disease, they have no sense of humor what-so-ever. As sad as it may seem, the internet is about my only communication with the outside world. Becoming a recent shut-in with them taking my drivers license away is a very bitter pill to swallow.

While waiting for a post to clear the mods, I got this message, after going to the bathroom and noticing an error I made.
The administrator has specified that you can only edit messages for 15 minutes after you have posted. This limit has expired, so you must contact the administrator to make alterations on your message.
I’m sorry but having to ask permission to fix my own errors is asinine. I’m really shouldn’t be grumping about another board on here but I’m trying to inform others it could be much, much worse around here.

That does seem odd that they have it set up that way. Sure they have their reasons although for the life of me I have no idea what they are.

I’ve always been a crazy legs kind of man, the kind that go straight up and make a perfect ass of themselves.

Lately I’ll take my jollies any way I can get them.

People confuse private boards with something. They think they have the right to say whatever they want and start screaming freedom of speech has been violated as soon as something they said is edited or deleted. Fact of the matter is, private forums are dictatorships. Play by the Admins rules or leave. I'm saying this from the Admin side of things.

Roundeye, I understand where your coming from. I joined a site like that myself and after my 8th post and locking horns with Admin after every post, I left. Funny thing about it is, it too, was health support board. Some of these people are on extreme power trips.

OK, that’s it !!

I’m not trying to join any more forums. I tried to join a forum that deals with chronic illness, the word “lesbian” shows up as asterisks.

Maybe it’s the steroids I’m on or maybe I’m hypersensitive to it because I aspire to be a published author one day, but this @n@l-retentive, politically-correct BS has got to stop !!

They even have a section that deals with AIDS.

Are you kidding? Try reading the old Taylor Guitar forum. You say poopy or post a picture of a girl in less than a snowmobile suit and you get a free pass to Banned World. SG has always seemed pretty lenient to me?

That’s the point I’m trying to get across to those who grump about it being too strict. Watch and see if I don’t refer those who want to grump about it to this thread in the future.

Philip has a sense of humor. That's a big plus. Many times I ask myself if he's leaving things go too far, but the more I look at things around here, then more I understand what he's doing. More Admins should try doing the same.

I signed up on a ham (amateur radio) board that required every post to be approved. What?!?!

I was only there for about, oh... one post.

I dig it here at SG. (It amazes me - or not - that so many people here have been around for close to 10 years.)
