Video card comparison

Post by Humboldt »

Have an old AGP Radeon 8500 that works fine. Just remembered a coworker gave me a PCI Visiontek 9250.

Not much point in swapping the cards is there? The Visiontek has twice the memory but I'm assuming any advantage there would be lost using PCI instead of AGP.

Is this correct?

I would assume theres not much of an improvement adding in the visiontek. Is there a game you want to run better that you play or is your system fine as is?

No gaming, just wondering if it would fold faster. My system folds like old people screw.

Is that right, that even though it would have twice the memory the PCI would negate the benefit of more memory?

Eh, theres more factors involved but the 9250 isn't a speed demon either.

You aren't doing GPU folding on old cards like that anyway so it won't effect folding.

I don't think there are drivers that support folding for most older cards anyway.

you need to set up something like this

Not trying to use the GPU client program, just figured that an improved video card might help my regular f@h a bit.

Damn, I'd love to build something like that.

I wonder what he's spent on video cards alone.
