Hi friends,I´d like to apply the vista patch to improve my speed, but when I clic on the link it opens a new tab browser with several values, please could someone explain this?
Thanks
Not sure what is happenong, but you may be opening the file with your text editor program instead of downloading it.
This is what I get by clicking link for SG Vista TCP/IP Patch in either Downloads/Patches under Boradband Tools or in Philip's Windows Vista Tweaks article under Broadband tweaks.
First is download window where you click save and save to desktop or other preferred area.
When you click (right click to run as Administrator) on file should get a Command Prompt window with the following.
*** SpeedGuide.net Vista TCP/IP patch v1.3 2009-02-12 ***
This Patch optimizes Vista TCP/IP settings for broadband
Use at your own risk. No warranty express or implied.
------------------------------------------
Type "y" to optimize Vista TCP/IP settings
Type "q" to disable QoS reserved bandwidth
Type "d" to revert to Vista default values
Type "n" to cancell patch and exit
------------------------------------------
Type y,n, or d, and press ENTER:
If you get the above followed by about 100 lines of text, that is what is happening. I can't tell you why.
You click on link and sve it to your desktop double click the patch and run it in command prompt you want to type y ,or q.
Qos is way to limit traffice to certain machines on a network.
The y just enables ctcp or compound tcp which is faster than the older tcpip /v4. It also disable the autotunning and sets the value to highly restricted which means it will give alot of room in the wnows/buffers so you can recive more dara than on auto.
It's all in here but if you more questions feel free to ask.
Thanks mccoffe, the problem was using firefox to download the patch, when I used IE everything worked. These are the results:
