Direct TV vs Comcast

I currently have Comcast for my internet connection and TV and have thought about dropping Comcast for TV and moving to Direct TV. This is based off of price and overall I am just tired of dealing with Comcast. I am interested to see if anyone else is using cable for internet and Direct TV for TV as well as peoples overall opinion of Direct TV

This is TV only not internet connection.

TV service is comparable, but internet is definitely better on Cable as Burke so eloquently pointed out

I would definitely keep Comcast for internet connection...just thinking of swapping up the TV providers.

I prefer Comcast, I like the ondemand stuff, service is also good. And when comparing to Direct TV it costs about the same or a bit more to switch to Direct TV.

I like the IPTV stuff like Verizon Fios and ATT Uverse, but ATT is in this area and their comparable net package is higher, and splitting TV and internet up would add 5 more bucks to the Comcast internet package

Where is the Dish Network selection? IMO Dish Network is much better than Direct as they give you more HD and regular channels and the prices appear to be cheaper that I've seen.

DirecTV for TV and Cable for Internet is what I suggest.

Yeah but Dish Network charges you $5 a month for your local channels, Direct TV does not.

That and the fact that as DTV gets rolled out nationally digital channels will naturally expand across the board.

I use DirecTV and have cable for my internet. I prefer DirecTV because I can put my DirecTV Tivo's on my home network and share recordings between all my units. Also, it gives me the ability to move recordings to my PC.

FYI these are not standard feature's and it requires hacking your units.

Thats a minor difference that you don't have to worry about if you have a antenna. I priced the differences between what I have from what they offered and Dish is cheaper...better equipment too from what I saw of friends setups.

i too have been thinking about switching from time warner for tv to direct but keep time warner for internet.
i don't like noe being able to delete channels from line up that i don't get or don't care to watch and time warner says it can't be done.
also time warner hd package is poor.

It depends on the units you have. I have 3 HDVR2's which are very easy to hack and upgrade with large hard drives and web interface among other things. If you are interested check out the forums HERE.

I like my comcast HD cable,but it just went up $10 a mo,

so now,to have digital HD cable with a DVR and one box,it's $100 per mo now

but I have the channels I want,I like the dvr(cheaper than tivo) and the hd and "on demand",so it is what it is for now,and I will keep the CC service,one thing you can do with cable that you can't do with satt,is I can run an extra 2 tv's with no box and still get most of the channels I watch.

i have direct and att dsl hear the att Elite is faster then the cable internet and cheaper.

direct claims to have the most hd ch not sure how they count and never looked at a side by side because i had direct for 10 yrs. so i am one of the few lucky ones that have both disntant networks from LA and NY its great geting 2 shots at ever show.

if you are a big football fan only direct tv has the nfl package.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

I compared the price on Dish and Direct and I didnt see a huge difference in price and I like the thought of getting their sports package and potentially the NFL ticket.

From what I heard Direct TV is about to partner with AT&T for areas that they can not offer U-Verse after the end of the this month and since I have AT&T has my cell provider I should be able to swing some type of discount. I can also refer a friend and get $10.00 off my bill for 5 months.

The only caveat I see is signing the 2 year contract.

As long as you don't mind a possible brief outage during bad weather, DirecTV is the way to go.

We get some rough weather around here but I have got a few friends with Direct and they say at most its a crappy picture.

I agree with Roody on this. Those of you with weather issues with directv is dish interfered with by trees. I had this issue, moved my dish and all is well.

oo direct tv has on demand now but you have to have it on your network the new dvr boxes you hook up to your network and they have on demand now.

i like the all day tix my self.

i also like how u can set your dvr up to recored from any comp it can come in handy you get stuck at work or something one day.
