Noisy CD Rom Drive

Post by Mwing »

I just bought a new Creative 52x CD Rom drive, the problem is whenever I put a 700MB CDR into it, it becomes extremely noisy. Real huge noise!!! While I put other 650MB CDR or non-CDR there is a little noise only. Is this normal??
Please help...

I bought the exact CDROM a while ago and had nothing but trouble with it. Very bad on reading burns. You might just have a media problem but I wouldn't discount the drive either.

The 52X Kenwood SUCKS, don't get it, I have it and it's horrible, and I'm not the only one that s had problems with it. Kenwoods are notorious for making shotty CD drives. I dunno how the 72X performs or how reliable it is, but definitely DO NO GET THE 52X.

I have a generic Multimedia 52x cdrom, it claims that it can read at 80x with DMA enabled. Sometimes the thing spins so frucking fast that it stops responding and winds down. (Very Loud) but it sure is fast when it works. :D

cdrom that cant read burns suck. If your getting a new one, read the box and be sure that the thing can read most standard formats. (VCD,Picture Disk)

Cdrom's usually only last about a year and half, so why bother with a good one? I usually wait till one on sale and pick up one for $20 after rebate. Besides, the extra speed a faster cdrom gives you will only apply when you're installing something. So, if you buy the best and fastest; you'll save yourself(mentally doing the math).... about four minutes a year!

Spend the extra money on a decent burner or something else you really want that'll last... like a present for me!!
