BF2 - Probably the millionth problem.
Hi. I'm new to your forum but it looks pretty active. I've gone into a lot of detail so sorry for long post but google is failing me and i'm sure you can pick the main bits.
BF2 - complete collection installed and auto patched to 1.41. 100% legit. Picked it up about 2 weeks ago as I thought it was finally time to moove on from bf vietnam.
I was running bf2 with a dvd drive with demon tools off and it was loading single and multiplayer patched up to 1.41. However I took the cd out and put more ram into the pc which made the game run better but when I put the disk back it would no load even with demon tools off so I plugged in my dvd rw drive and managed to get it to run through that.
But the game now loads every time single player but crashes when i click join multiplayer game.
I have direct X 9c, I have the newest video card drivers. I dont have xp sp3 as i heard it's dodgey.
Basic specs of my aging 4yr old desktop pc.
XpSp2
p4 3.6ghz processor
2GB ram
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 SE/7200GS with 512mb ram (what dxdiag says)
Problem:
Single player works fine
Multiplayer nope.
Gives me a nice server list then when I click join the thing just cuts off to the desktop, no errors, no evil bings just cut out.
I've read the notes. 1.41 was supposed to fix the join game crash. Gah.
I've tried turning off my firewall and demon tools as well as virush software and checked my ram to make sure that was not broken but still the same problem.

nope.
Desktop
It's a packard bell which is not stock appart from the cpu and gfx card
Only thing the comp fails on is bf2 and only pressing that join multiplayer game button.
I guess I could try swapping the ram but it's only 2 days old and it's running single player noticabley better since I put it in.

Ah. Sorry Sava700 I was trying to cover all the steps i'd done. Hope this is a bit clearer/focused.
Today I tested the ram which all seems to work (loaded pc from every stick as I thought one might have failed)
Unistalled Sonic DLA drag and drop burning software and now the game loads every time with Demon tools on.
HOWEVER
When I load the game and click join multiplayer game it just crashes to desktop.
Single Player is fine.

I decided to try this. However It will not uninstall (might have found the whole prob here)
I have tried removing it from add/remove programs and it's uninstaller crashes.
I tried the uninstall link in the folder/start menu but that gets as far as language selection then also crashes.
Any ideas how I can remove the game propperly?

Well. I've got it working now. I used CCleaner to help me remove it from the registry then deleted all the folders manually. Except for the game profiles(laziness) and reinstalled it and it works fine now. So i'm not quite sure what happend there. Maybe it got confused with all the hardware changes.
However I think i'm going to do a windows reinstall over xmas as there are no viruses but there are some things a bit iffy about it such as disk management 'suddenly' not working and to just start a-new .
Thank you for you help though.
Got there in the end.
If I ever get a problem again i'll try and start it off a bit clearer.
