Post by Michfan »

im looking for a good quality video card between 100 and 200 dollars. i have a 4x agp, so im probably gona get an agp rather then a pci. also, right now i have an old ati rage turbo with a 12mb voodoo2 accelerator, once i get the new card, should i keep the voodoo2 or will it now do any good?

just a couple questions that will probably be asked anyways.......

-what do you primarily use your computer for? is your emphasis primarily on busiess, or gaming? generally there are cards which are better for one or the other. gaming cards (a geforce, for example) typically are really fast, but have comparatively poor video quality. "business" cards are usually not as fast at pushing textures and triangles, but have a prettier picture.

-what are your system specs? its also something to consider when looking for a videocard.

-whats the liklihood you will either build another machine (and will have an extra videocard for it if you keep the voodoo)? it can also come in very handy for troubleshooting purposes for yourself (or whoever) in the future.

Get at least a Geforce 2 MX. That'll cost you ~$100. If you can, get a 32DDR Radeon. Or, register at www.coremeltdown.com and you can win a V5!!

i would agree with ssjDoh. another card to consider is are Matrox G450 (very, very nice picture quality). its a dual-head (dual-display) card. it doesn't quite compare to the sheer brute power (3D-wise) of the Radeon, or a GeForce.

its kind of a finesse thing, rather than a muscle thing.
