Does anyone know how to load storage onto ram

Post by cooler1234 »

I was wondering how to load storage onto ram. I read somewhere that there was a program that made it so you could load files onto ram modules. But I need to know how to do this i am thinking of loading win98 or win2k onto the ram. Can someone help me. Hehe imagine using ram as storage no more slow hard drives.

Ram is Volitile

It requires a Charge of electrons to retain it's information, when the charge drops so does the information

That's why your ram gets cleared out when you reboot or turn your computer off, RAM cannot by nature store information permantly like a hard drive

RAM has what's called a Refresh, it refreshs a certain amount of times a nanosecond to keep the charge, when the charge is gone, so is the information in the ram

Thats still not a permanent place to store the files. As soon as you reboot or shutdown, whatever was in the RamDrive will be deleted. Ramdrives are good temporary storage places. But what if your PC crashes before your able to get whatever you had in the Ramdrive outta there? It's too risky and its only worth it of you have a large amount of RAM, at least 256.

Well DUHHHHH of course Ramdrives aren't permanent. Cooler was askin bout storing stuff into ram and using a Ramdrive is the only way to do it. I never said it was a permanent way.

Listen, you sarcastic imp, he asked about storing Win98 or Win2K into RAM, so obviously he must want it to be permanent and not temporary. Read the posts thoroughly before making your stupid snide remarks.

Both of you need to cool off a bit. I suggest one of these.

Just calm down and lets help the guy out.

I know you can store things in ram, which is what he was asking. If he is asking if you can install win2k or win98 in ram then the answer is no. We need to communicate better.

Hey cooler1234,

Get a PDMCIA device and flash card. You can get 400Meg cards for about $70 canadian. You just need some software to read it.

You can load storage onto ram but as warned it is volatile and will be lost when you shutdown. If you have 64 megs or more of ram I have heard you can greatly increase your web browsing if you create a ram drive and put your browser cache to that drive.
