I saw an Obama ad as well... I hadn't even noticed the political ads earlier.
Most of the ads are contextual, I imagine that's simply what the spiders relate the content to.

Because people would rather be amused to death by useless entertainment. So long as people still have dinner, a home, their favorite tv shows to come home to everything is perfect...I can believe that if something like the NFL were cancelled there would be such an uproar by people it would be crazy marhcing on the streets...priorites are just in the wrong places these days.Burke wrote:Another question: Why does the Ohio State Buckeyes thread have more views and replies than all of the recent bailout threads combined?
If it is any consolation, the present grand larceny has been the hot topic among all my staff and patients.

sadly only about 2 other individuals at work share my concern on this situation where as the others are oblivious and believe itll all fix itself and everything will be peachy...
no its not priorities in the wrong place. The last thing I want to constantly be slammed about in the evenings while at home are problems surrounding us besides my choice to watch them on the news channels. After time with family its BF2 and Football for me. You have to understand our freedoms and things we enjoy in life are what makes being a American so great. If we don't wish to run around with our tin foil hats on all day long thats our choice but you go ahead.. I won't stop you.frostybear wrote:Because people would rather be amused to death by useless entertainment. So it is tin-foil to try informing people who are oblvious to what is going on? Part of the reason things have gotten the way they are is because people just always let someone else handle things because it is easier and dont have time to get involved. Yes I do understand our freedoms but I look at it like this, you are either informed about what is going on, realize it will affect you, your family, friends and so on and try to educate others who believe this will all blow over without a whimper. Most people do not understand economics so they dont get involved because it seems boring and complicated.Sava700 wrote:no its not priorities in the wrong place. So in turn, people do not get invovled and just repeatadly let the politicians handle everything EVEN though they have shown time after time they cannot be trusted. I dont know about you but when someone constantly lies to me they cannot be trusted to hold their power, ESPECIALLY when it effects the lives of millions. Or you are willfully ignorant on the subject and refuse to dig deeper than what is shown on the MSM and just parrot what they say. This method is just welcoming the problem and allowing for greater disaster in the future.

not like that for me. i actually read and research things of worth more than things like Buckeyes, etc... I cannot do anything about either the Buckeyes or the bailout so the choice is easy, whichever is more enjoyable and less stressful at the time, which happens to be OSU.

Well to make a long story short..at the end of the day people like myself want to turn away from the troubles of the world and enjoy entertainment like football or games and whatever else.

So hypothetically speaking...what would you do if they stopped showing football , reduced entertainment or had a lock down on internet traffic affecting your BF2 sessions....just keep ignoring it and find some other form to entertain yourself so you dont have to look at the troubles?..When do you draw the line? It is really selfish only to act when things start to affect you personally or your family...but thats just my opinion...plus im crazy remember..Sava700 wrote:Well to make a long story short..at the end of the day people like myself want to turn away from the troubles of the world and enjoy entertainment like football or games and whatever else.

I would not claim any special level of erudition to my clientele. It is common sense, which has be moldered by hopeless, exasperation and cynicism, classic NJ.
It reeks of a dark future novel.

Wont mean its not happening though....we all have different levels of erudition but the magic is when we combine all of ours to come to the most accurate conclusion based on information from ALL sources...David wrote:What civil unrest... you won't see it on TV...

You can either sit in a dark closet, trembling with fear..biting your nails til they bleed....
...or you can go out each day, do your best at work, come home, enjoy dinner and entertainment with your family, go to bed with your spouse, and look forward to repeating the process when you wake up the next morning.
I choose the latter.

Nobody said you had to sit in the dark, but to act like its not happening and hope it wont affect you or your family is naive because one believes they are well off enough to where it wont affect them (Just general consesnus I have gathered from speaking with people in the past few months) .. There isnt ONE reason you cant do the latter while looking at the possibility that things wont be so sunny in the near future and one should look into what it might take to care for your family and others if possible....YeOldeStonecat wrote:You can either sit in a dark closet, trembling with fear..biting your nails til they bleed....

Also I am doing everything and everything not to be in the dark about it and be open as much as possible, it would seem the ones who are in the dark or want to stay in the dark are those who choose to bury their heads in the sand..dont you get just that little itchy feeling that maybe, just MAYBE that is exactly what they want you to do? You know just go to work, go home eat, watch tv and do it all over again without trying to make a difference...like I said earlier, hypothetically, would you act when the entertainment is gone or food rises to such a cost you have to decide what you will be able to afford that month...when it affects what you decide to do with your kids, is that when you would get involved or would you keep doing the same thing hoping it gets better. Just a hypothetical question of course...

What is bawling my eyes out, and walking around town like the town crier screaming "the world is coming to an end" going to do for me?
There's a happy medium. Just because I'm not ready to jump off a cliff..doesn't equate sticking my head in the sand. Yes the economy is slumping badly. I feel it, I'm in mid transition in a big change in my life right now. Financially probably by next spring I'll have lost over 400 grand (in the past 18 months) to get to where I want to be due to this real estate market plummeting. I've burned through 2x IRAs staying afloat so far...and about to cash a bigger one. Wanna call that being naive? Sticking head in the sand?
It's called not giving up, putting home in the eventual turn around (which it will..markets fluctuate). What's not naive..is knowing it's a long overdue cycle, with the way the gov't is, the need for big change...we'll have a bounce back after the election because the 40% of the people that voted the bonehead in which wins this election will feel good, and that will start a boost. We'll have a second boost when the actual taking of the office happens. Then IMO we'll barely plateau...because it seems Obummer will win, and we'll suffer through another 4 years not unlike the Carter years. And a bigger swing towards the postive after that election. So I'm just biding my time for 4.5 years.
No need to call it quits..the gov't is going to what the gov't is going to do. It always happens in cycles.
