Same ISP different location. Bad results.

I was living in Austin Texas with a RoadRunner/Timewarner Cable connection. After moving to Wichita Falls and setting up my connection in my dorms here my experiences are not the same. I had roughly 9000kbs down and 400kbs up with my Austin Texas connection. With the new connection here in my dorms I now get 14000 down and 1000 up. I would think that this would give me a better ping to my Dallas ventrilo server and to Dallas counterstrike servers. I also play WoW and Wc3 and I get higher pings with both of those games as well. Wichita falls is closer to Dallas and my connection is better here...what could be causing the higher pings?

Wc3 - 73 used to be 30
WoW - 300+- used to be 130
Counterstrike to Dallas servers 35-40 used to be 15-20
Ventrilo server - 76 used to be 16 stable.

Please, if anyone has had similar problems or know a fix to this let me know.

Note, the modem they gave me here is a piece of crap...it doesn't even have a brand on it. They tried giving me the standard Motorola Modem but the connection wouldn't work through it.

Thanks,

Is this new connection "shared"...or dedicated to you?

The connection is going straight to me. I found that today my ping for WoW went down to the high 90s which is better than when I was back in Austin Texas. But my ping to vent is still bad. I "tracert" the IP and i see that it is jumping all the way to Houston, then to Los Angelas and back to Dallas to the server. I dont have any experience with tracert or what it really means. But common sense is telling me it has no need to jump to the other side of Texas and then to another state before it hits the Dallas server. Is there a way to configure the jumps that it makes? Or am I being naive? My ping to "Battle.net" for wwarcraft 3 hasnt changed but I can see as to why it might have gotten a small amount worse. I play on the East server and maybe Wichita Falls is a bit further and has a different route to take than from Austin to that server.

Any help with the tracert problem would be helpful though.

Thanks,
