He just wanted everyone to know that they are all ok.

The power may be out for a couple of week though as they have poles down all over the city.

Good to hear!

If we can get MadDocs wife to give up her battery collection :wth: we can send all those batteries to him and he'll have enough juice to run a town for several days. :D

I'm sure that collection is spent as it is...

I was wondering how bad it hit where he is located. I would be very happy if all that happened was no electricity. Yeah, it is important and convenient to have, but there were no other damages. Thank God! :thumb:

He did mention that they had a tree uprooted and it's laying across the driveway and some damage to a roof but they are all ok.

The family and I are OK. :D

Technically I live in Jefferson parish right outside of Orleans to the west and I'm on the westbank of the Mississippi river. We didn't flood but again the wind kicked ass, I had my front door open and the storm door closed during the storm, so I had the weather channel live and 24/7.

I have water and natural gas, nothing else. They have 14 main transmission lines in Louisiana and 13 are fubar. Right now I'm at a friends house who is one of the lucky few who have power and net access.

Right now there is no telling when I'll have electricity back, last night we had a big fish and shrimp fry, food that was in the freezer. After that its time to eat all the canned goods.

Also, they weren't playing around with looters. They had police and military EVERYWERE. We took a ride up the road after the storm and was pulled over and polietly told to go home.

The main thing is everybody is ok, hot as hell but ok. Its like camping out for a week or so. I'll be back to update more in the future but I have to go now.

Thank you everybody for your concern and well wishes. :thumb:

I don't even have a home phone. I used the cell phone. After Katrina the cellphones worked for a couple of days then went down. Thats why I called downhill right quick, I still had cell service.

Well gotta go, its almost dark and curfew is from dusk to dawn right now. Don't want any problems with the police right now. They are shipping people straight to Angola penitentary right now. Some place I never want to see the inside of.

I’m back, I have power and cable. :D

Now we have to see what Ike is going to do. I really can’t handle much more of these hurricanes. I just got a generator tonight to run my refrigerator. We did lose all our food in the fridge and freezer.

This storm wasn’t near as bad as Katrina, but we did have wide spread damage south of us. Things we handled much differently on every level this time too. I’m sure the eyes of the world were upon Louisiana for this storm. There were police and military everywhere this time. They did catch a few idiots out looting during the storm, and they were shipped straight off to Angola state penitentiary, NOT a place you want to go. One judge even set bail for people caught out during the storm or looting, before he evacuated. He set bail at $50,000. So if you were stupid enough to play in the storm or loot, you weren’t getting out for a while.

I didn’t get much chance to write after this storm, I was too busy cleaning the house and yard. After a few days of no electricity you start to look hard for things to clean. I’ll post more as things come to mind, just wanted to say,

I’m baaaaaaaack

I wanted to say thank you everybody for your concern and offers for help. :thumb:

Truth be told, I do tend to play things down a bit. A storm such as this isn’t really easy to live through every few years. There really isn’t much I can do about it though. It’s really easy to say “move” when you have the finances to do so, if it were just me, I’d try to move out of state again but this time I have a family in tow.

Something different (I think) about this storm, this time many cities banned the sale of alcohol and ammo.

I don’t mind drunks much, I don’t mind guns at all, I can’t stand drunks with guns.
