"World's largest beer can" sports inkjet-printed label

-- Converting Magazine, 6/25/2008

Image"Hello, Guiness Book of World Records? Have we got a label for you!"

Dave Leach, a Chicago-based collector of "world’s largest items," recently commissioned the enormous Old Style® beer can (at right). The vinyl wrap was inkjet-printed by Road Rage Designs using MPI 1007 EZ RS and DOL 1000 vinyl products from
Avery Dennison Graphics & Reflective Products Div.

Leach chose the Old Style beer graphics as a tribute to his father, whose favorite beer is the vintage brew originally made by The G. Heileman Brewing Co., now owned by the Pabst Brewing Co.
“We chose Avery Graphics MPI 1007 EZ RS vinyl for this unique opportunity because it is easy to work with, and the overlaminate really made the colors in the graphics pop on such a large-scale application,” says Kris Harris, vp of Road Rage Designs.

it is estimated that 300,000 beer kegs get lost every year. not any more since the beer companies are going to start using our rfid tags to track each one.

Now they'll only lose about 5,000 and spend all the money they save looking for those 5,000 and hire a team to figure out how they got passed the system. :rotfl:

Uhh, your company designed the Beijing olympic emblem? Are you sure about that?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dancing_Beijing
The logo was created by Guo Chunning, the vice-president of the "Beijing Armstrong International Corporate Identity" (AICI). There was only one seal among the 1,985 entries contributed by designers from China and overseas.
If you work for AICI then I'll shutup. :p

Either way, it's definitely a better emblem than the one designed for the London 2012 games.

Nice find. I'm sure there is a logical explanation.

Anything's better than what they used for the '96 Atlanta games:

“Admit One” to the Beijing Olympics® – Courtesy of Roll
Materials China
Beijing, China – When visitors to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games® pass through
the turnstiles beginning August 8, every ticket they present will be made with
labelstock provided by Roll Materials China.
China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation (CBPMC), exclusive supplier of
tickets for the Beijing Games, needed to make 15 million tickets out of material that
was thin and smooth enough so that it could be layered, yet strong enough to resist
high compression stress.
After evaluating many potential suppliers, CBPMC
selected Roll Materials China. “Even though two global
competitors quoted lower prices, our AW5112
highgloss
paper with BG40
hot-melt adhesive won this
special order because CBPMC trusts the Fasson brand,”
says Weijun Cheng, project leader and focus operator,
Roll Materials China. “To prevent the sale of fraudulent
tickets, CBPMC is also embedding RFID technology into
each ticket.”
The volume for this project totals more than 400,000
square meters.

Every ticket to the Beijing
Olympics® will be made with
Roll Materials China labelstock.

GRPD Asia Has a Beijing Olympics® Venue Wrapped Up
Beijing, China – The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games® begin in a matter of days – and
thanks to Graphics and Reflective Products Division (GRPD) Asia, GRPD products
will be seen on that world stage.
“Beijing Shine Century Advertising Co., Ltd., one of our converters, won the bid to
decorate the inside and outside of the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium,” says
Jason Li, sales manager, GRPD North China. A two-day product training workshop
staged by GRPD for key converters convinced Beijing Shine to choose Avery
Graphics
materials for its Gymnasium project.
“Presentations at the workshop strengthened our customers’ confidence in Avery
Graphics
products,” says Nick Lu, GRPD product manager, China, “and provided
them with additional design inspiration and ideas.”
The wrap project generated nearly $200,000 in sales for GRPD. “This has been
an exciting assignment,” Nick says. “Everyone approached it with passion and
innovation. Now we’re looking forward to the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium
becoming a showplace – not just for the Olympics, but for GRPD, as well.”
