Computer start up probs

Post by Khiafin »

I swear my computer is so dumb. I always have problems starting it up. Some times it will freeze on the Windows 98 logo at start up and some times it will freeze on the desktop, mainly it freezes at the windows 98 logo, anyone know what is causing this? I know it has to do with a driver or something. I knew which file it was exactly but I cant remember now it was something .386
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Try disabling some programs that start up when you start up your computer(if you can get into windows). One of the programs that is starting up may have an effect on this. Try this an post the results. (if it helped or not)
Windows has not yet detected a keyboard. Press any key to continue.

yahoo!! boot problems, i'm here to help. Okay, as you're starting up, press f8. That'll bring you to the screen with safemode etc. choose boot with bootlog.txt. After you get windows going, go to www.download.com and find a program called bootlog analyzer. If it's not there, look for it on yahoo. run that program and it'll point out any errors that you might have. do this a couple of times and hopefully you'll find the evil villian!!

You also should check out your device manager to make sure you dont have any (!) markers

This sounds like the exact problem I was having a little while ago. The question I have for you is either your keyboard or mouse using an adapter to fit into the PS/2 slot in the motherboard.

What I had with my computer was my keyboard was an older one and I had an attachment to make it a PS/2. It would freeze onthe logon screen and in windows from time to time.

I finally got pissed off and bought a PS/2 keyboard. Same thing happens if you have a serial mouse converted into a PS/2.

Well let me know if you in fact do have a mouse or keyboard usinga converter.

Hope this helps you guys. :D

Except for your swapfile win386.swp, the "386" files are virtual device drivers. After running System File Checker (sfc.exe)- second-and Scan Disk (first and faster)you might try installing Win 98 over itself.

try disabling the 'win98 logo' all together.. then checking all of your hardware especially memory. i had problems like that due to a bad cheap generic stick of memory. cya
