[Overclocking] Cpu Temps?

Post by messiah »

I'm running my 900Tbird @ 990mhz, the software monitor I use (PC ALERT) shows me at around 107 degrees, and sisoft displays 110 degrees. Is 110 degrees too hot in most cases? At 900mhz sisoft reads me as 107 degrees.

90mhz for 3 degrees is damn good in my opinion, but what do I know.

Your thoughts?

HMMM I dont remember what mine run in farenheit. My cpu is 850E oc'd to 1005 via 1.9v and it runs about 33.5C under 100% load. @ idle its same as room temp @ 23C.

There is always a way, you just might not like what you have to do to achieve it.

33.5 = 92.3
23 = 73.4

107 Fahrenheit = 41.6, so id say that youre runnign a little warmer than jdblitz but no need to worry too much, unless you get above 50ish on full stress to your cpu. my tbird 900@1050 runs at 25 idle and 40 full stress. with an fop32.

Well mines not that cool, how many fans do you have on yours? Is this with CpuIdle running?

this is in win2k which has the HLT commands running by default (part of acpi) to stop your cpu from running any unnessecary commands while idle. does what cpuidle does but automatically. if i have acpi disabled in win2k, my temps go up to 38 idle. no extra case fans, but the case is open on both sides.

Messiah, your temps are fine. My 1GHz T-bird runs at 43ºC. I would never let my CPU get past 50ºC though...

Yup your temps are fine. The reason Blitz's sys runs so cool is that he is using intel, and he has a heavily modded case.

Cool Deal!

Would you reccomend running Cpuidle or something of that nature? I want to run my cpu at least at 1100, what temp range should I try to avoid?

Don't go over 50C at load. If you are running Win98 CPUIDLE is ok, otherwise it is built into the operating system.

at load, meaning only when booting up? I check it usually in the bios, after I adjust the clock settings. It's fine to exceed 50c after Im playing Quake and working in Photoshop, and Flash though right?

Thanks for your help man.

At load means when your COU is working 100%

Messiah, use Via Hardware Monitor to check your temps. It's real time. Get Prime95 (or I'll send to you if you're ever on ICQ) and let that run for 30 min. It stresses your CPU at 100%..than check your temps. I'd get mroe cooling if you go above 50ºC.....ewven though I hear 55-60ºC is max, I like to be lower than 50 to be safe :)

heh my temps are low for a Cumine runnin @ 1.9v with aircooling. My processor starts gettin unstable around 40C so I HAVE to keep it cool to oc it. I am thinking about getting a tec and trying to push to 1100. anyway, G'Luck for 1100! easier to hit with amd processors than Intel nowadays. I wish I could trade my BX133RAID and 850E for a KT7ARAID and a T-bird 1.2Ghz heheh even a bit o cash too boot!

Cool deal man. I appreciate it. I'll try to find you on ICQ tonight.

*I couldn't find the Via Hardware Monitor on my system. Do you know the path?*

It should be on your CD that you got when you bought your mobo... Since I have an Asus baord, I got Asus probe instead of the Via HM. I know Abit gives out Via HM...If you don't have it, I'm sure someone will be nice and send the program to you :)

I'm not sure if yo posted this or not, but what mobo are you using? And wht do you have for cooling?

And I'll be in "away" mode most of the night. Friend is comming over to do some homework..just leave a mesg, and I'll get back to you :)

resources has nothing to do with it. if youre using win98 then i would go ahead and use cpuidle. if youre using win2k dont bother cause its already got a similar thing working for ya! play hard for an hour or so if you cant get your cpu to run at 100% then play UT for an hour. 42c isnt bad if its at full load.
good luck.
