cd burners

ok this is the problem.......... my computer will not reconise my cd burner this happend befor and i fixed it but i forgot how its like the computer thinks its not there and when i go to my computer it only list one of my cd rom drives please help me
i will no longer be holding back my power so i advise u to run

um more info please, cd burner brand, computer specs etc...

is it on it's own ide cable? set as slave? master? does the bios detect it? what os?

ok it is set at slave and my cd rom drive is set to master and the bios doesn't detect it i am runnin windows 98 and it is internal

what brand CD Burner, is it new or used?

Do you have the Power connector plugged in to it, are you sure the jumpers on the Burner are set to slave and the jumper on the CD-ROM is set to master?

Are you sure the Cable is in the correct position with the red stripe on Pin # 1

i am kinda new to this and the burner is internal so how would i check the jumpers and stuff???

jumpers are on the Back of the drives

take the burner drive out and look on the back of it, there are jumpers back there, look in the manual it should explain where to put them for slave, it might also say it on the drive itself around the jumper area

ok i found out the reason why it is not workin, when it was workin i turned off my computer and put in a start up disk the disk created a ramdrive and that moved my drive back or something like that and that inturn removed the drive now i wish i could rememeber how i fixed it

i would check to make sure that the ide cable didn't go bad or that you didn't have it half of the way cause you can realy damage them that way i watched my buddy do it he burned out 2 of them good thing he kept the recipt
