IRQ conflict with ABIT KA7-100
im using a ka7-100 motherboard with aa AMD athlon 800MHz cpu... and 256MB RAM and i have diagonsed that the sound blaster X-gamer sound card is causing a conflict where it wipes out my cd rom and burner drive once the software drivers for the sound card has been installed .. i have a sound card and netowrk card for cable and thtas it for pci im using voodoo 3500 tv for agp video card.. and i have my hard drive located on the 1 of 2 ata ports i have along with the regular 2 ide ports where on the secondary ide is where my cd rom drives are located on the board....i know its a bios setting it has to be i onyl had the Windows ME OS on and the sounds drivers which cause the cdrom drives to not be recognized anymore .. alomst as if the sounds card drivers pusehd the Cdrom drivers away that why i think its something to either do with IRQ's or the BIOS or both so if anyone has any thoughts on this i would much be appreciated.... thank you

Try different sound drivers. I have a Sonic Vortex2 sound card and could not get the latest drivers to install properly. WinME kept crashing every time I tried to install them. I got the reference drivers and they worked. Not as many features, but at least I have sound.

pci slot5 shares IRQ signals with the HPT 370
IDE controller. the driver for HPT 370 IDE controller supports IRQ sharing with other PCI devices. but if you install a PCI card that doesn't allow IRQ sharing with other devices into pci slot 5,you may encounter some problems. futhermore if your operating system doesn't allow peripheral devices to share IRQ singals with each other,such as win NT,you cant install a PCI card into PCI slot 5, KA7-100 ONLY. in other words move the card. have fun that same problem kicked my ass for a week.
