DIMM Configuration - are these in the right order?

Post by goose »

System Board
DIMM Slot 1 (SDRAM) . . . . . 32 Megabytes
DIMM Slot 2 (SDRAM) . . . . . 32 Megabytes
DIMM Slot 3 (SDRAM) . . . . . 64 Megabytes
Total Compaq Memory . . . . . . 128 Megabytes

Are these right or should i move the 64MB chip to the first slot??

It's a good idea to put the largest and fastest Dimm in the first slot. Does it work the way it is? If it does then dont bother changing it.

Battleship is correct. Sometimes, Compaq has it's own memory configuration setting depending on the model.

You can check memory configurations with Compaq's QRG (Quick Reference Guide) if you know your s/n. Normally you need the 5,6,7,8 digits of the s/n.

Hey,

Its always better to have the biggest memory chip first in the I/O order.

If your computer has to take the time to write/read bits from two sources, it will take more cycles, thus slow you down.
