IRQ
For some reason I am having problems with my comp. I recently moved for a p1 to an amd k6-2 475. Great speed increase, but all my irq's seem to be used. SInce I have cable, i took out the 56k modem, and win 98 se works fine. Not win 2k pro, for some reason, it won't use IRQ 2 at all for anything and unlike in win 98 se, my 2 com ports can't share the same irq. Whats up with this?

Try setting a jumper on any of your cards to use the unused IRQ2. Then reboot to see if Win2k will re-assign the free IRQ to what ever you are trying to load.
If this doesn't work goto your control panel, system, hardware profiles and copy your current setup to "OLD CONFIG" or what ever. This gives you a fall back option.
Then power down your PC & remove all cards but what’s necessary. IE, Video & Disk controller (if they are not built on the motherboard). Then add cards back util your up and running.
If you have a BUS mouse the IRQ for Com port 1 can be re-assigned as well.
If this still does not work & you have an Upgrade version of the Windows OS you currently are using. You can run setup over what you have installed now. With no loss of data.
This may fresh your registry and reset any tweaks that may have caused this IRQ conflict problem. The worst case scenario is to re-install windows from scratch to get a clean start. IE: "We bug out & nuke the site from orbit. It the only way to be sure."
