I have a previous post talking about the strange results I get when running speed tests thru a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 router to a Terayon TJ715 modem on Comcast.
Well tonight I brought my old WRT54G V3 Linksys router out of storage. I hooked it up and verified that the STP switch is disabled. This router is running the same version of DD-WRT as my Buffalo but the proper firmware for that router. (v24 RC5)
When I power up the devices and run a speed test on either Speedguide or SpeakEasy I get the following results.
NO Router Modem straight to PC ---> 17000-18000 to GA ( 1,2,3,4,5,6 tests)
Results almost the same for the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 and Linksys WRT54G
Boot router--> Speedguide test --> ~18000 down to GA ( 1st test )
----------------------------->> ~590 kbps to GA ( 2,3, 4th tests)
boot router --> SpeakEasy test --> ~16000-17000 down to GA (1st test)
------------------------------->> ~585 kbps to GA ( 2,3,4 times )
Borrowed neighbors Netgear WGR614 router ( factory firmware )
Boot router--> Speedguide test --> ~18000 down to GA ( 1,2,3,4,5,6 tests )
boot router --> SpeakEasy test --> ~16000-17000 down to GA (1,2,3,4 test)
So either I have something set very wrong in DD-WRT or there is something else wrong. I have tried this with 2 different PC's and have very similar results. I want to use DD-WRT for my router as I like the various reports and information it provides over the factory firmwares.

Odd...very odd. I've done several setups with DD-WRT and Comcast..never had to do anything different over stock firmware or any odd settings.
All the Comcast setups I've done though..have been with Motorola Surfboards, Arris, and SMC modems.
Knowing it takes time..but curious what results are with stock Linky firmware.
Have you tried Tomato firmware? A bit lighter and quicker than DD-WRT.
You should not need to clone any MAC address, since you do get a good public internet address and are able to surf the net...but..due to the Teray modem, and this weird situation you have....worth a shot just because I'm grasping at straws....enter the MAC of your PC into the routers MAC cloning section and enable that.

I have not tried Tomato but will take a look at it. I am reluctant to go back to the factory firmware having bricked a router once going back and had to work hard to bring it back to life.YeOldeStonecat wrote:Odd...very odd. I have cloned the PC mac address to the firmware and the results are still the same. Some tweaking of settings did get me to between 1100-1200 dwn now but nothing like it shows when running without the router or on the netgear.
Turns out the problems were related to the QOS settings. I had tried disabling and enabling the QOS setting and then running tests but nothing changed. So today I did a factory reset on the router. This left the QOS disabled by default. I ran the tests and everything was extremely fast. Then I enabled the QOS and the speeds were great only the first time I ran them and then they fell off dramatically each test there after.
So I diasbled the QOS and now all the tests I run are consistent and show high speed. It seems that browsing has also increased.
Thanks to all that made suggestions during this confusing time.
