Need a sump pump

Post by Humboldt »

Trini's mother does a fine job for me but I need something to keep under the house.

What do you think of this one?

Anyone have experience with these?

Not had too much experience, but I would be looking at noise level, trash screen (depending upon how clean the water is).

Life time warranty is nice. Seems to suck a reasonable volume of water per hour. As far as the filter goes... you can always put the pump in a bucket with holes in it. Big enough to allow for water but not the big trash. Vertical 1/4" slits up the side of the bucket are even better (about 8 of them). That means lots of flow but nothing more than 1/4" is going to get in.

If sound is a problem (and you have space in the crawl space) put a cover or insulation over it to reduce the noise. Still... an electric motor doesn't make that much noise. Will the pump be pushing water up hill or down hill (if the house is on a slop... it could be one or the other.

Kip is a pretty good judge of suckers. Lots of field experience and custom installs. He also might have some ideas about how thick and long the hose needs to be. Firm always... but not so firm that you can't manipulate it. Some pumps have an automatic off switch if water is not hitting a sensor. Again... Kip knows when, and when not to suck.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Been doing some online research and several people have mentioned Zoeller pumps as the best ones out there.

It'll only have to pump about 8' with 2' climb...going to dump it into a downspout off my gutters that's already tied to a 150' buried water drain leading away from the house.

OK, seriously. Try Little Giant Pumps...they are good. Probably more expensive than Sears but I have experience with them..I used to work there and built them, my ex works there..so does my mom.

I have a pump in the basement. It is manual though. I need to dig a hole to put it into. Once I do that I will get a better one and do the auto on thing. No idea on the brand since we got it with the house.

That's what I'll be doing, this is for a dirt crawl space under my house.
Most of them are in the same ballpark price range.

Went with a Zoeller M53 :thumb:

Got the best reviews on all the forums I looked at, several professionals said they guess 20 years+ per pump.

Had a french drain installed recently, looks like its helping but not solving. Going to pump from this pump discharge 1 1/2' to 1 1/4" and dump that into the downspout I have tied into the drain system, after the french drain dumps into a 4 " pipe and out about 150'
