Minimum supported requirements according to Microsoft...800MHz and 512 megs of RAM.
So you're a bit faster on the CPU, but shy on the RAM. RAM is easy and cheap enough to add....however, for the 7+ hours of runtime on that laptop...it has a 4,200rpm hard drive. So even if you slap in a gig or two of RAM...she'll still run very pokey unless you upgrade the hard drive spindle speed.

yeah I think those are WAY wrong, 2gigs should be a min for Vista IMO, the sucker just eats it not to mention I think a requirement should be to own your own power company cause even sitting on desktop the OS causes the ram to run wide open and eat power, pretty sad when we are trying to conserve power.

Depending on what they're running on it....a gig can be tolerable. Ultra portable laptops aren't going to be performance champs anyways. One of my laptops is an older P3m 1.6, with 1.5 gigs and a 7,200rpm....Vista runs fine on it. the 5-7 watts an SODIMM consumes won't make me lose any sleep.

Bah! Folding on a bunch CPU's going 100% is what adds up over a months time.Sava700 wrote:that adds up over a months time.
Additionally..on a laptop..doubt it's 24x7.

Should run, but slow...You'd definitely want a second gig of ram if at all possible. And don't count on Aero, depending on the video chip.CableDude wrote:Guys, I made a mistake. The laptop that I(work) have is a 1.5 ghz with 1 gb of memory. Forgot to check video and HD space.
I'll run the upgrade advisor tomorrow in the link that Dan posted.......
......If I remember.
Thanks everyone.![]()
Except for fairly powerful (newer) laptops, I'd personally use XP.

There ya go! Run theme in Classic mode...she'll do OK with lighter apps. You may have to fiddle with video drivers depending on which onboard yours has.CableDude wrote:Guys, I made a mistake. The laptop that I(work) have is a 1.5 ghz with 1 gb of memory. Forgot to check video and HD space.

Grey can be happy, when it makes your computer faster, because it is not bogged down using more memory, to display vista candy.YARDofSTUF wrote:Grey is depressed, aero is happy.
Hey that almost rhymes..

Well.. I'm going to try running Vista in Virtual PC 2007, and give that a shot..YARDofSTUF wrote:Nope, then he'll have to do more work in a day.
Trying to find out if I register it under Virtual PC, if I'll screw myself later on if I reinstall it straight on my main computer.. because the hardware is emulated on Virtual PC...

Oh I agree. I was just looking to try out Vista and start to learn about it for my job.Kyle wrote:Should run, but slow...You'd definitely want a second gig of ram if at all possible. And don't count on Aero, depending on the video chip.
