80 Pin Ide Cables

Post by Easto »

I hooked up both my Maxtor Udma 33 10gig drives to a new 80 pin Cable, removing the old stock Ide cables . I have read (and it stated on the Belkin box in the store. I did not buy them, I had some at home) that this would increase my drive performance. I have been benchmarking with "Sandra" and I do not see any difference at all. Soyo 6BA + III mobo (FYI) I understand it should help with data integrity but??? This tweak does not appear to be working for me.

its the other way around, 33 turns 66 and 100 to 33 performance. 66 turns 100 to 66 performance.

I am using the same onboard controller. Just new cables. The way I understood it was that these were "Quality" cables and would help with performance. I understand what Colour is saying about the compatibility issue... I just thought I might get a slight bump in performance

The 40 extra wires are grounds to prevent cross talk and allow signal transfer at the higher rates of UDMA 66/100. Theoretically, they might make UDMA 33 drives a bit better, but sandra isn't a gread HD bench anyway.
