Mail server time....

Post by caveman »

I`ve been playing around with mail servers of late, and have stumbled upon one that was really easy to use, and above all, it worked!

Ability Mail Server is the fella, as found here, and it`s doing quite well!

Now, when I come to the end of the 30 day free trial, I don`t want to do something silly like actually pay for it, I want a free solution.

However, of all the free mail servers I`ve tried, none of them seem to work very well. They`ll either send and not recieve, recieve and not send or spit a load of scary errors out and not do anything at all!

So in short, can anyone recommend me a really easy to setup mail server that is above all FREE!

Many thanx

Al

They have a free version.

I recall you built an IPCop box..this would replace that.

Well, so far The smartermail people need to pull their smarter fingers out and get themselves some smarter bandwidth!

I mean come on.....24KB/s , to get the 31MB file I`m gonna be using walking sticks by the time I get it!

Someone remind me again, why do I have 20Mb cable?? :rotfl:

Well, I got it....eventually.

It all SEEMED too go well to start with, but as per the others, I can send but not recieve, then when I start mooching about to find out why, It keeps crashing my browser.. in fact browsers!

  :irate: :irate: why can`t the Ability one be free??? that works! :irate: :irate:

Oh, I give in!

I wouldn`t mind so much if i hadn`t un-installed it twice to try and straighten it out!

Still can`t put my finger on why it won`t recieve.......... got all the relevant ports open in IPCop....Ability works on the same ports, (both servers are not running at the same time)

Any ideas anyone??

Excellent software.. We run the pro version on our mail server that we use to host our clients' mail. Combined with ASSP, which is an excellent spam filtering app (and FREE), it's been working out great for us.

Well I can`t see any reason why this won`t work both ways....I got the undeliverable mail notification a few hours later on my Yahoo! email that I used to send tests to my server, obviously because the server did`nt or couldn`t respond.

I`m still playing with the ability one........it`s amazing what you can find out there if you go looking! ;) ;) ;) ;)

Incidentally the ability one is working great!

Thanx anyway people, if anyone has any ideas why this will send and not recieve, please let me know! :thumb:
