best bang for the buck at the moment!

Hey guys, i know im being lazy as heck, but ive been outta the hardware game for too long. Last system i was looking into was when the 939s were the best. At the time i was about to drop some money and then decided against it.

My current system can be read below in my sig area.

I am wanting to build a 'budget' DX-10 system with at least a dual core (been doing alot of video conversion and such). I will need at least 2 gig of ram as thats what i have now and don't want to go lower. When i was looking into the 939 i was looking at the asrock mobo's and wanted to keep my ram and video card, now that DX10 is 'needed' i don't think thats a possibility anymore.

Can someone point me in the right direction on newegg? and what should i expect to spend? i have a case already but will need pretty much everything else. Thanks!

Video card = BFG 8800GTX hands down... don't get a watered down GTS

He said BUDGET Sava. Also, the Striker along with all the other nvidia chipset motherboards are crap compared to p35. Even if he wanted to spend 300 you should have recommended the x38.

Get yourself a 8800gts (640mb would be more futureproof but if thats a bit much you wouldn't sacrifice musch getting a 320mb version) and a Asus p5k-e (exactly the same as the p5k deluxe minus a few extra features like a 2nd lan port and enormous motherboard heatsink). Also, grab a nice enermax liberty psu as they are well under 100 bucks.

I know he said budget.. but for the price total of $1384 ( that includes 100$ for the ram) thats a pretty damn good system for a good price!!! If you don't say Budget then I'll push you well over $3,000 easy.

You keep on pushing the GTS cards.. I've seen them first hand against the GTX. You can't beat the GTX for the price right now.

Yes, you can.....with a GTS. He's obviously talking a 'normal' budget system...not a Sava budget system.

Ya forget the striker. The GTX is good if its in your budget, not sure when the next set of cards from nvidia come out, but if its soon then it might be worth a little wait.

I would also consider a higher clocked core 2 duo over a quad core, especially if you don't plan on OCing.

You can drop the q6600 to a e6750 and free up $100.

You can drop the 8800gts 640mb for a 320mb version and free up $100. FYI the higher memory is recommended for higher resolutions in dx10. So you game in 1256x1024 or lower resolution having the 640mb version over the 320mb won't affect much.

Maybe thats your problem, your looking at is as you being put down. Think of it as us expanding your knowledge of what a budget system is. This can help you be more effective at offering suggestions in the future.

I would drop to the e6750, probably look at a 650W coolermaster real pwoer for support of a better video card in the future.

New video cards are hitting in December. From here on out video cards will be needing less power according to nvidia. Hopefully ATI as well, 2000 high end are space heaters!

The 8800gt which is hitting fairly soon would be an really good choice for you. Meant to replace the 320mb 8800gts for the same price. It has 512mb as well as a 65nm gpu (less heat/power usage).

naw I know what i'm doing...and perhaps its not me that has the problem.

Remember he asked for help and didn't give a amount, a Budget system in todays market and value of funds could very well be around 1-2000$ with the costs of hardware/software now. So lets not crap on his thread by trying to make yourself appear to have a larger e-penis.

Its well within my "Budget" as defined by my income... thats all I'm saying. No amount givin so I opened it up to what I felt was a decently built machine with the selected parts.

Sava, while your budget may be a lot more than most peoples, 95% of people who say they want a 'budget' system mean they have $1000 to spend.

This has nothing to do with "e-penisness", other than that you usually think with yours when building a system. You chose to recomend a 300 dollar motherboard for a budget system.

You dont do that, even for a non budget build there are better choices now.

A budget concious(sp) builder would not waste that much when there are other boards for less that can do the job, like what shaggy listed, at only 155 bucks.

You build is at about 1440 without a hard drive or CD/DVD roms/writters

Like he said i didn't mention price. And like he said some people think of 1500 as a budget. I should have specified. Truthfully i have been outta the hardware game for so long that i don't even know which speed of DDR to go with which processor and such anymore....

I'm doing another system for a friend of mine that has a side business of doing videos...doing very well at it.

Asus P5K LGA 775, 134 bucks at OldEgg
Intel C2D e6850, 280 bucks
4 gigs of Crucial RAM, 280 bucks
A pair of the Seagate 750 gig 16 meg cache drives, 200 bucks each. The 16 meg cache, and having Windows set with the pagefile on the second spindle...will give fantastic performance of crunching large files.
Seasonic 600 watt power supply, 155 bucks.
Haven't narrowed down the vid card for her...no gaming, probably get a Sapphire xt2600 based card, 256 megs, approx 110 bucks.
