Wow.. what a thunderstorm!

Post by Shinobi »

Just sitting here on the computer, when out of nowhere it starts raining heavy..
Then the lighting and then "hail" ..

I have a UPS (APC) hooked to my main computer.. and then "click" power outage.. then a big thunder crack.. woke up my Wife really fast :D

Anyhow.. :) the power was out for about 2 minutes.. and my computer was powered by the UPS battery.. then it clicked back on AC when the power came back on...
all while in Fedora Linux 7.

No damage to the system
Happy! :thumb:

Thunderstorm seasons over here in UK, I cant afford a UPS, but I did get an 5 socket surge protector that also has in/out for phoneline to go through it, its a great peace of mind.

Yep.. I remember when analog 56k modems was what everyone was using for internet access.. I used to get, at least.. three people or more, that would come to me afterwards, with computers that were dead after a thunderstorm, because of a surge thru thier 56k modem.
. I used to say "do you have a surge protector or UPS?" and they would say.. "yes I have a surge protector.." then I would say, does your modem go thru it it? does it have phone line protection?" I would see the same blank face expressions over and over... Even now still need INMO..

I was talking to a guy that I know, a few weeks ago, that had a strange surge at his house, that took out his TV and Stereo because he didn't have a surge protector on them.
