Dear Togers,
Thank you for that. I have since uninstalled a few programmes including ITunes, just to see. I have also uninstalled Firefox, IE7 showed the best test yet, you will find it below; any help would be much appreciated. I have a 1 metre cable between the PC and the ADSL modem, and know that I am 275metres from the main connection box.
Incidentally my best test was with Oslo, not the country I reside in.
Thanks again for your support,
Best Regards,
Nico

If you do not have any background program running during the test (eg. files updating, or p2p), the likely cause would be some spyware/malware.Contact wrote:Dear Togers,

If you do not use a router, you need a software firewall.
I use Comodo as firewall and NOD32 for antivirus.
A free antivirus would be Active Virus Shield or AVS. You can also try looking in the Security section of our forum for other recommendations.Contact wrote:Thanks, Togers...
I have comodo and am downloading NOD32, it has a license any way I can get a free version? - I will try it and let you know.. :-)

The remark of NDT report:Contact wrote:Dear Togers,
Does that mean, that you suspect that there is a security flaw that is sucking up the bandwidth? And have we tried everything possible?
Thank you for your response,

Information: Other network traffic is congesting the link
means that it detected signals during the test that is not between your comp and the test server and that these signals are occupying part of the bandwidth. The test does not indicate where these signals come from. It could just be some background program running (eg. messenger, antivirus check for update or p2p if it is running, etc). It could also be some spyware/malware.
I usually scan my comp when my NDT report shows this remarks. I use SpyBot, Ad-Aware 2007 and a-Squared Free.
