I still use Sygate

I know... not supported, perhaps better free software firewalls out there but....
Is Sygate still a valid software firewall or does it have a lot of leaks/holes in it?

Some people still swear by it..as some prior versions were great products.
However, IMO, having an updated firewall is almost as important as windows updates, or updates to your antivirus software.
There has been malware out there which specifically targets some software firewall products..and can knock them out. It's been a couple of the "bigger name" products...but it has been out there. Those "bigger name" products had to release updates to their firewall to fix the vulnerabilities. This isn't myth..it's fact.
And as you move towards newer operating systems...those old ones may no longer work.
Take a peek at Comodo...it's free, rather lightweight, easy to use, passes leaktests at the top of the list...and it's often updated.

Comodo doesn't seem to like me. I un-installed Sygate, installed Comodo and I couldn't get out to the Internet. In defense of Cat and Ace.. I do have all but 7 services running so that could cause Comodo to block access. Still... Sygate gets out just fine with 7 services running.ace wrote:I was also a long time sygate user. I tried out comodo on Cats recomedation to another user and have been totally satisfied with it. It works great and low on resources!![]()
Download and install now or no sheep for you for at least a week.![]()
Back to Sygate I go.

Sygate is effective however it does not permit file access on LAN unless you have the pay version. Comodo does allow it.
