GM union sets 11 a.m. strike deadline

Post by Sava700 »

Should be starting right now..
The United Auto Workers union set an 11 a.m. ET Monday strike deadline for its 73,000 members at General Motors late Sunday night, although talks between the union and the company were still ongoing.

Looks like a tactic to just speed up the negociating process.

GM is doing horribly right now.

They are just gonna end up having no jobs rather than low paying jobs.

exactly.. if GM gives in then Ford and Chrys will have to fight a up hill battle as well. I've heard rumors that Ford and Chrys are going to help GM behind the curtain with this one.

The union needs to back off on the health care costs a little and absorb some of the costs so the company can build a little and give more jobs to more people.

The way I read it, it seems the health care issue is pretty much set.

Do you honestly expect him to be knowledgeable about the topic?

If it were any other union other than the UAW I'd be pulling for 'em.

Yeah I think if I back up a min.. it was about retirement health care..which GM wanted to unload and push to the Union but still give them alot of money to maintain it which would in turn give GM the ability to grow more.

Ohh I've had to deal with the UAW's greed for the last 5 years..I'd say that makes me know more than enough about whats going on.

my 2 cents...........I am a auto worker , have been for 39 years, I am timed on my job, I have computers telling me if I am ahead of schedule or behind schedule..mostly it seems I am behind schedule, because the company keeps upping the schedule....I take a 16 minute break at 9:00 AM, then lunch at 11:30 am..Then I work straight thru until 2:30 pm........I Start my job at6:30 AM.....usually by 7:00AM I start getting behind, I have worked thru my breaks and lunch to catch up........Some may say I am lazy or old, but I say, that the Auto companies believe that I can be pushed and pushed into acting like a robot........When I get home I cant even cut my lawn , I am so tired..W

I'm glad the company did not cave into the militant union and their demands!

no,not a hater,just a realist,I have owned and worked on(profesionally) both american and "imports" since I was 16,

looking at how they are built under all the panels is a real eye opener,

I went through my ra ra! buy american phase,

and in the past several years have come to the realization that I don't like "american" cars, ford,gm,mopar, etc.

I like the Mazda,Honda,& Toyota that I drive :)

I'm glad you guys like your vehicles,to each his own.

Well I guess it depends on what vehicle, mazda is very low on my list for quality. I drive a nissan, but I'd buy a vette, GTO, sky, or some of the more sporty cadillacs if I had the choice and money.

JD Power seems to rate them well.
