Socket A Motherboard and AMD vs Intel???

Post by Renegade_Smash »

Ok if my motherboard is Socket A that means any AMD Processor will be compatible with it right???

The second question is what do you guys recommend for the best performance in a budget processor the AMD Duron Processor or the Intel Celeron Processor????

thx

I would go with an AMD. Just my humble opinion. I will *NEVER* buy another Intel processor. Its just a name your are paying for. AMD is just as good (better in all of my experience) then Intel. And cheaper. Don't buy into the name. I will admit, that the AMD K6-3/VIA MVP3 chipset that I had, had alot of problems. But the latest T-Bird with Abit KT7A has had no problems so far. And the problem didn't lie in AMD, it was with VIA. Anyway, go with the AMD. Most people on this forum would agree.

if u have a socket A board, then get a duron 600 for like 50 bucks or so, u can get it to 800 easily and should hit 900 with real good cooling, and even 1000 like freckmoto did.

ok i read in a magazine that if you plan to purchase an AMD Duron or Intel Celeron to make sure to choose a powerful 3D card to run alongside these chips if you want to play games on them... So what is this so-called "Powerful 3D card"??? is it between 16mb-64mb???

yes any SocketA AMD chip will be compatible but you may want to check your FSB for the board. If it can only do 200mhz, i wouldnt buy a 266 fsb TBird.

Or you can wait a few months for the very fast Palomino or the Morgan which will replace the Durons or just at least use the Mustang core under the Duron name. Then you can either get the T-bird by then, will be dirt cheap, like $100 or get the faster Palomino, kicking the PIV's @$$ in performance. Like the AMD 1.2GHz T-Bird wasn't already
