Since doctors can get a hold of each other easily, I explained to my primary care doc how important it is to me that my gyn removes both ovaries during this surgery. He said that he would talk to him.
So......[RANT]....He calls me back and siad that my gyn will be calling me to talk to me about the surgery. He said that he is planning on just taking out the one ovary, test it, and if there is cancer, wait one month
and then have me come back for more surgery to remove the other one.
Is it me or are they out of their ****** minds??????????????????
I'm waiting for my gyn to call me. He is going to get an earful!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Sammy. The way I look at this is if they took both of them out and did not find anything like cancer, the worse case scenario is menopause which I believe I have already started. At least I will have more peace of mind. I am willing to go through that.Spammy wrote:Debbie it will work out for the best, I am confident the Lord will be with you every step of the way.
This should offer you alot of comfort right?

You DO have a voice in this Deb, no matter what your Dr. is telling you. It is called preventative medicine. In all probability if you are having trouble with one ovary, you will also with time have trouble with the second one as well. You are also close enough to the menapausal age, that the removal of the second ovary will make very little difference. Stand your ground. There is always a risk factor with any surgery, which you do not need to take. Of course, that cuts down on their financial aspect, so their choice would be to draw it out. Again...stand your ground! I know this stuff can drive you crazy...trust me..I SO know! Hang in there!

Girl, since my breathing is not so great right now and I have to use the inhalers, they will more than likely have to cut me open instead of doing it lapriscopally (spelling) because it will take less time. I know they don't want me under anesthesia too long. I am not looking forward to that, but if that is the way he decides to do it, so be it.MissTynker2 wrote:You DO have a voice in this Deb, no matter what your Dr. is telling you. I have been smoking waaaaaaaaaaaay too much since my father died, worrying about the growth they found on my mother's liver that is damaged (more tests to come), and then this news about the mass. Doc heard a weeze in my lungs at the pre-op physical. He told me that he knows that I am severely stressed out and will not add on to it regarding the cigarettes. He said we'll work on that issue after the surgery. Right now I have to use two inhalers and 4 days before the surgery, I have to use a nebulizer twice a day to clear out my lungs.CableDude wrote:That happened quite some time ago, right?
I am trying not to smoke as much. It is a challenge.
I thought it was from the construction work and the dust that plagued you months ago.Debbie wrote:I have been smoking waaaaaaaaaaaay too much since my father died, worrying about the growth they found on my mother's liver that is damaged (more tests to come), and then this news about the mass. I don't post much in these kind of threads anymore Debbie, mainly because I always feel like I'll miss something from someone and feel like I'm excluding others in my wishes, BUT I hope everything works out well for you and your mother.
And good luck with the smoking bit, I understand that one believe me.

He spoke to my primary care doc and is aware of what I have to do to prep my lungs for the anesthesia.
So, at lunchtime, I bought the nicotine patch.
Wish me luck.
