Where are you moving on to Larry? Is there any particular reason you're leaving?

If so, it'd be sad to see one of the kindest, most level-headed and sagest members driven off by yet another religion thread. :(

If it is to be so, Larry, I wish you happiness. I've always enjoyed your insight and humor.

:(

I'd rather see the ban hammer drop on whoever offended minir than have him leave. SG would not be the same w/o him - period.

minir -

Realize that those who disparage others' beliefs and who promote controversy for the sake of controversy, have the goal of causing others harm. That is sometimes not so obvious intention, often masked by an ignorance of what they themselves are really doing. They have not yet lived enough Life to realize what their actions really do, their responsibility levels are too far south of decency.

It takes courage to stand up against such people and speak one's mind. And it is the responsibility of those with that courage to stand up for others too, and to minimally set an example for others so as to help promote the ideas of tolerance, justice, freedom, integrity and honesty.

On more than one occasion here I have had to defend my own beliefs and the beliefs of others too. This I will do forever.

There are always pieces of rotten fruit in the bushel, and it may seem like the entire basket is spoiled because the odor may be strong, but a little water rinse and the remaining 97% of the fruit is sanitized and made attractive again. The noisemakers here at SG are approx 2% of the membership, and they make it seem like there is a large group of them because their noise is so loud and sometimes unimaginably incomprehensible. But their bark is is not a bite and they have no respect from the decent folks.

I urge you to reconsider and stick around. It IS your responsibility to lead and to set an example of what decency means, and to continue to post about meaningful subjects, to continue to educate those not in the know, to share your vast experiences so as to help others live a more meaningful life, to spread good news instead of controversy, etc. etc. etc..
No one has any right to force data on you

Unfortunately its not so simple as good and bad fruit. Each person can more easily be related to a basket of fruit, both good and bad then just all of one kind. You paint a picture more black and white than anything else.

It is no members responsibility to spend their freetime in a place they dont feel welcome or comfortable. Its a shame that a member like Minir would feel this way, but if he doesnt enjoy it here then he shouldnt force himself to stay.

Also the total regualrs ammount to about 0.2% of membership, the "bad apples" should be less than 0.0001% for any member.

Actually I agree with this. I don't remember it being like this when I joined in 03. That's part of the reason I decided to stay after I got my DSL question answered - people were nice here, it was friendly, there was no nastiness. Now it seems like in a lot of ways this board is like a lot of other boards on the net - full of people saying things with the sole intent of starting a bigass fight.

When confronted with the truth, running away is always the best reaction. Never stop and consider what you believe may be totally wrong, just run, run, run.

That is total bullshit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone has their own truth. What is true for me may not be true for you.

That is the problem with some members here. There is no dam respect for anothers belief system.

That's ok though. What goes around comes around.

The diplomacy skills some of you exhibt are shameful. While you cower behind a professed ideal of "just being honest", really you do what you do because your hundreds of miles removed from the people you insult. IMHO, you do it to satisify your egos since it's not something you can do in real life.

All you really have to do if you can't add anything meaningful to a thread like this is to "gracefully" hit the back button.

Minir my friend, we can't dictate how much we try, to other members to behave themselves, but on the other hand, those who go out of their way to start flaming threads are pretty much recognized on the boards as punks. Only maturity will change that.

Precisely why I won't allow them at forums I admin at! They divide and ruin forums and friendships. I don't need that crap and obviously neither do others.

well you know ... these people who do nothing but troll the boards and then pounce and dish out insults to others need to be dealt with ... while this is a "public" forum and no one has an obligation to stay they surely should not be made to feel like they have to leave ...

i bet these same people who start all this crap do not do this in person to people

because that's the most important issue right now. Not that an extremely well-liked, well respected member is leaving, or that some feel the board is going down hill. The important thing is that a poster misspelled a word.

it's just a little fun and attempt at changing the direction of a thread,

i was not referring to you ... although sometimes i think you chime in when maybe it is not needed, i do NOT see you as one who watches, waits, then pounces ... to be honest, i have come to like you and like to post/debate with you.

and on a side not...it is wierd you maybe have felt guilty enough to see if i was referring to you ... i was not though

I dont feel guilt, but I tend to put myself on the less popular side of threads more now than before. Too many dull meaningless nuetral posts. Along with the senseless burke attackers.

Well Larry, I will miss your humurous jokes of the day--I really liked them as most of them were tastefull and not too offensive....not to mention that most of them could be read in a professional environmnet without fear of "offending" anyone.

Take care and I wish you the best in your future endeavors!

Please do this.

I realize that with age we strive for peace and serenity in our lives. We really don’t need the crap of other people flowing into our home through our trivial little internet connections, just put down the keyboard and step away from the computer for awhile. Enjoy the outside world for a bit and keep in mind that you have friends here that would miss not seeing you around.

Ah well.
Being a religious topic we are dealing with relativisms. Recoiling from a negative stimulus is a natural reaction.
