Windows File Protection?? (Help, Please!)

Post by Brubbles »

My computer told me that I was running low on diskspace and that I could choose to clean up unused files. So I said yes. But then I got this pop up message that says: "Files that are recognized for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the original versions of these files."

But they want me to insert some sort of CD?? When I say cancel it says:
"You chose not to restore the original versions of the files. This may affect Windows stability. Are you sure you want to keep these unrecognized file versions?"

So obviously I say No! But, I have no idea what this is or what will really happen if I say yes! And I don't know what CD to put in, and even if I did, I'm not sure I would be able to find it.

Can anyone help me and tell me what this is about? Or know how to help? I would really really really really appreciate it! Thanks! :)

Thanks. So, I'm not getting out of this unless I find the CD, huh? If I decide to cancel it is there a big threat to my computer?

Windows File Protection is there for a reason. Find a CD and let it repair the unrecognized versions.

Thanks. Turns out I don't have the CD! It never came with the computer. (I didn't know this, I didn't buy the computer). So, I had to ask Dell to send me the appropriate CDs.

Annoyingggggggggg.

Thanks, everyone! Hopefully this works once I finally get them! :)
