Ok this is getting very annoying, I keep getting a system alert popup telling me my computer is infected with a virus when its not.I have a feeling that the system alert is a virus waiting to be clicked so does anyone know a tool that can get rid of this system alert popup? Thanks in advance.

Well, you are definitely infected with something.
Prior to doing anything XP users MUST disable System Restore!!! You can re enable it after you are clean.
1. Download, install and run CrapCleaner to remove any temporary and junk files.
2. Download Ad-Aware SE 1.06 and set it up as shown HERE.
3. Download SpyBot Search & Destroy 1.4 and set it up as shown HERE.
4. Download SUPERAntiSpyware, update and do a full system scan.
5. Download AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, update and do a full system scan.
6. Download and run CWShredder.
7. Do a FREE online virus scan from BitDefender Online Scan and remove all that it finds.
8. If you aren't currently using a firewall or anti-virus profram then I suggest you install Comodo Firewall and Active Virus Shield - (setup instructions HERE), both are FREE and offer excellent protection.
9. It is a good idea to use Sysinternal's Autoruns to make sure you have removed all of the malware.
10. It it also a good idea to run the Winsock Fix to repair your TCP/IP stack. (you will have to redo any tweaks for your connection if this is used)
11. If after doing ALL of the above and you are still having problems please scan with HijackThis 1.99.1 as shown HERE and post a log here in this forum for us to look at.
12. Download SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 and set it up as shown HERE to help stay spyware free.
13. Make sure you have ALL of the latest Windows Updates.

I bet you have a variant of SpySheriff or SpyFalcon (in the smitfraud family).killzone156 wrote:Holy crap! My computer is infected with tons of trojens and other crap! How, I have virus and spyware protection though?
How did you get it? Hard to answer..what do you do for general computer use?
Things that are bad...P2P file sharing programs, downloading warez, surfing risky websites with internet explorer instead of firefox or opera, not keeping anti ad/spyware programs up to date, same with good antivirus programs, not having your PC protected by some sort of firewall, having a blank Administrator password, etc.

You should really consider removing Mcafee virus protection and the firewall if you have in two.
It will bog down your computer by allot!

Do you really need to ask that? Look how infected your pc is right now running McAfee.killzone156 wrote:You mean mcafee isn't good at protcting your computer?
Also will I get tons of viruses if I even remove my firewall and mcafee for a few to install the few you suggested? One more thing, why didn't mcafee detect those viruses and how good are these other ones you suggested?

those things are very annoying and hard to remove... if I were you and you haven't done it in a while.. back up everything you want to save and do a full reinstall... Myspace is horrible for causing these things too.. took me a few hours to remove the same thing from some girls computer.

The big popular 2 in the US...McAfee and Symantec, are awful. Need to look across the pond for better antivirus products. Right now the top 3 are Avira, Kaspersky, NOD32.killzone156 wrote:You mean mcafee isn't good at protcting your computer?

It's one of the lightest ones I've seen....not to mention....some other good features like it's often updated (how many free ones do you find that get security and performance updates?), easy to configure.
There's also Ghostwall.
Sygate has some lighter versions..but as far as I know..nothing but older versions are free.
I like just being behind a NAT router...but since you've been compromised...would be a good idea to run a software firewall for a while...to watch any outbound or otherwise unsolicited baddies.
