Help Upgrading CPU

Post by michaelking »

My motherboard supports a P4 Processor up to 2.6GHZ\400FSB. I currently have a P4 @ 1.6GHZ installed. I've been looking online all day long trying to find a compatible 2.6GHZ\400FSB processor, but I keep running into 533FSB\800FSB Processors! So, What I was wondering was, would it be possible to use a 533FSB or 800FSB processor for a board intended for a 400FSB processor @ 2.6 GHZ? :confused: ....Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Yes its possible but the multiplyer will only go by the 400mhz...

For example... If there were a 4ghz chip this is what it would run

400x5= 2.0
533x5 = 2.6
800*5 = 4.0
Main: AMD Ryzen R7 3700X, Asus Crosshair Hero VI, Nvidia 2070 Super, 16GB 3200MHz Ram, NVMe, EVGA SuperNOVA 750 P2 PLATINUM, Lian Li PC-V2120

Macbook Pro 16", Intel i9, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M, 16GB Ram, 1TB NVMe

Security System "NVR": Intel i7 9700k, Z390 Phantom Gaming-ITX/ac, 16GB ram, Seasonic FOCUS+ 550 Platinum, Thermaltake Core V1 Mini ITX, Cryorig H7

Bad math

The 400mhz system bus chips have an FSB of 100mhz, so a 2.0ghz CPU would have a multi of 20. 533s are 133mhz and 800s are 200mhz.

Mking, the 400mhz bus P4s are older, it'll be hard to find. Odds are your looking for a P4b, 478 socket.

Abit SD7-533 is a 478 socket. Your best bet is gonna be something like ebay.

Thanks for all the input, but I think I'm just going to go ahead and build another computer...*Long Sigh*
