Chris_c wrote:change my ip, or in the port forwarding ip? because the router sets that for me, if i change it.. it doesnt get saved for long!
change it within your router settings :silly:

I realize the other part....you want the traffic to go to your router/gateway and then have it direct traffic to the appropriate port.......you're still getting the traffic but not as efficiently as you could be....

Ok...what kind of modem/router setup do you have

where are you accessing this 'virtual server' properties box? Is this a router setting?

yea i have found that azerues from time to time will just appear to be setup wrong.... for instance most of the time my light is red saying im firewalled but i can still dl/ul and i get good speeds too...so i just leave it.... also when you reinstalled windows did you make sure to put settings in windows firewall to allow azureus to work? or do you have a anivirus like norton that you reinstalled too? because the worm protecton can sometimes cause firewall problems

yeah windows firewall was set up again, i even tried adding the ports manually. I use Avast! antivirus, as far as i know theres nothing to set up on that (i double checked) and Spybot S&D.

everything is still green, :thumb:

NAT problem w/ Azureus on Mac OSX

Post by Iheartmac24 »

I have just payed for 5mb dwn 5mb up Internet through my apartment complex. Speed test show i'm at least getting 3mb downstream but my Azureus downloads still hover around 20kb/s. I know my TCP listening port must be being blocked by the apartments router and I was wondering if there was any workaround to get my NAT problem fixed without having to go request them open a listening port.

I'm using a Intel coreduo iMac w/ firewall off for the time being and the latest version of Azureus. My ISP is Time Warner.

Any help would be greately appreciated

alexon wrote:Hello Everyone,

I also have the freaking NAT problem in Azureus and have tried everything that’s been mentioned in this blessed thread.

The difference with most of youse people is that:

1. When I do the “NAT/firewall test” in Azureus I get “OK”!!!!!

2. When I check my Azureus configuration from outside (using canyouseeme.org) I also get a successful response (“We can see your port from here”)

My setup:
* Azureus 2.5
* Linux Mandriva (latest version)
* No antivirus / firewalls in Mandriva
* Linksys ADSL modem/Router WAG354G

I have tried the following:

* Using different ports for TCP/UDP in my router: 6881, 55555, 61234, etc, (and updating them in Azureus). Always get an "OK" in the NAT test.
* Enabling/disabling UPnP in Azureus

Problems:
* Red NAT light: “Firewalled”
* Sometimes, yellow “DHT firewalled” light
* I think I can still download (although I haven’t tried in a while, due to my crappy ratio) but no one can upload from my PC.

Questions:
* How come I get the red light if all the “reachability” tests are OK?????
* Can the red “firewalled” light be due to the source/availability of the files I’ve downloaded?
* Can it be due to the torrent site??
* Can it be due to Mandriva?

That’s about it, THANKS A LOT for you help!!!

Alex

PS. Please copy your reply to my email account (aolazabal@jazzfree.com)

My Linux is terrible but I'd say it's probably that.....more than likely it sounds as if you need to allow the traffic with the mandriva firewall....I'm dual booting mandriva 2007 also but rarely use it ...cuz I hate linux....

I just read through this whole post for about the past hour and nothing has helped me. I got a Webstar Cable Box and a Linksys WRT300N router. Im not sure which numbers to use for single port forwarding and port range forwarding.

i hate to keep beating a dead horse, but i too am having a problem. but my situation is a bit different (as i'm sure everybody else says). I've been running Azureus for about 5 months, and have already done all the port forwarding... here's what i've got as of now:

Windows XP (SP2)
Azureus 2.5.0.4
AVG Internet Security
Linksys WRT54g v.3
sbcglobal DSL

Now this is the part that gets interesting (for y'all, and simply frustrating for me). I tested the port (39367) that Azureus is set to listen to, and it passed. I was getting upwards of 250 kB/s with nearly all green smileys and a green NAT OK "light". Well, with that kind of bandwidth, i very quickly used up my little 200 GB hard drive. I've since then added a 500GB Maxtor 7H500F0. Since i've added the new drive, i've been having remote connection problems, as well as nearly a steady stream of yellow smileys, and an NAT status indicator that goes from "red (firewalled)" to "green (NAT OK)". After the HD was added, i noticed the drop in line speed, so i retested the port, and it timed out. I changed no other settings, and the AVG firewall already has Azureus as well as Java as application exceptions.

It's not really killing me to live with 50-60 kB/s, but i KNOW that i could be getting 5 times that much if it was working the way it used to. What changed, other than a storage device, that could cause this huge drop in connectivity and download speed? Any thoughts would help me at this point, b/c knowing what i'm missing is KILLING ME. :)

thanks in advance for the help!

Yay, we hit 300 posts here!

have you done any windows updates that might have changed things? Checked to make sure windows firewall is still off? Or that AVG net Security isnt stopping it?

IP is correct (according to ipconfig). i'm 192.168.1.101

this is the address that i'm forwarding port 39367 to. does anybody know anything in particular about setting up the AVG firewall, or what type of "rule" i need to set up to allow it to do whatever it wants??

Turn AVG off and see if it works fine. You've got the linksys so its not liek you really need a software firewall.

EDIT: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=154436 At the bottom theres an idea of how to configure it.

The SB4100 isnt where you'll forward ports. do you have windows firewall on or another app?

Do you have norton's/symantecs firewall tunred as part of that program? I believe you will have issues with that...I don't use that program and haven't for a while but there should be an exception rule for both norton firewall and anti virus....allow both and test it out.

tons of tcp and udp ports open on my XP firewall and my network settings.

any help would rock!
do you have it as an allowed program in the firewall?

I am having trouble with nat errors as well i am forwarding the below ports but it still wont work am using zonealarm but dont believe it is blocking it does any one have any ideas thanks

Protocol Port Start Port End Port Map Delete
TCP 6881 6889 6889
UDP 6881 6889 6889
TCP 40541 40541 40541
UDP 40541 40541 40541

I am using the 40541 port and when i test it it comes up with this

Testing port 40541 ...
NAT Error - Connect attempt to 222.155.194.186:40541 (your computer) timed out after 20 seconds. This means your port is probably closed.

Do you have a router or are those just ports you've opened within the firewall?...i've also highlighted an error...make sure all are the same ...

In my case I tried everything that was written in these forums and ended up learning quite a bit about networking which should come in handy in the future :)
After trying alot of things, I went back to original settings again to start over. Then I did three things.
(I have a belkin wireless modem and router all in one)
1. Went onto my iexplorer and typed in the address which brings up the setup page for the router and modem (it should be 198.168...)
2. If you have DMZ which puts your computer outside the firewall range, go into that section on the page and type in your computers IP address. Now your computer is the only one out of the firewall of the router.
3. Just to make sure, I disabled the router firewall which there is an option for on the setup page also.
4. I forwarded port 65200 on both TCP and UDP.
However, when I tried azureus again, it came up with "Firewalled" again. As a last resort, I tested a different port (65202)on azureus and it said "OK!" and I applied it.
Now I get good speeds on all my downloads, everyone of the downloads have a smiley face!
