I goofed up my files

Post by RoundEye »

I'm using Win98SE. I tried to make my .jpg files open with paint instead of another program (Image Expert). Now when I try to open a .jpg picture I get a prompt "C:\My bmp was not found". I tried to do this in "file types" in the folder options box by changing the extension.
Where did I go wrong?
What is the default viewer for a .jpg file?
TIA

Hello Roundeye.
Paint will only allow you to use bitmaps.

You need to use a viewer that allows you to see everything else. (jpg png gifs ect ect.)

You could use Microsoft Photo Editor or simply look for an image viewer at cnet downloads or another file sharing site.
Hope this helps.:d

Roundeye,

If you want a really cool file viewer, go with ACDSee from http://www.acdsystems.com It even associates the different file types with a friendly color code. You'll like it!

Doh, how do I make a .jpg open up automatically with paint when I click on a jpg that is in My Documents folder? If I open paint first then go to file, open, I can select a jpg to open. But in My Documents if I click on a jpg, it will open with iexplorer.

Does this make any sense to y'all or am I just babbling here?

Ya, I understand :)
IE is the default viewer I think. You said that you tried to change it in "file types"? I just tried it, and it worked for me...

When you opened File types, highlight the "JPG" Click on Opens With:Change

now select paint and click close. Now test to see if it works....Tomorrow, I'll talk to you on ICQ if you still can't get it to work.

errr ahhh...

Well I might be a bit outdated. I just tired it on my puter with w95. Paint will only support bitmap files with 95 anyway. Any other format crashes Paint on my system. Thats where I got it I suppose since I use Paint Shop Pro for all my images.

Sorry if my earlier post was erroneous. :D
