High Ping Issue

I am joining the "High Ping Problem" group. I do alot of gaming (mostly Call of Duty UO) and was running in the 70 ping until a couple of days ago. Then the ping rate spikes to 300 to 500 and stays there. I did a ping and a tracret to the server I play on and here are the results (as I am new to this I have no idea what the jump in ms means):

Turn your router off and connect your comp directly to your modem and do another tracert.

Trogger - Thanks for the reply. It was very helpful. After doing some additional reserch I found it was my McAffe firewall causing the problem. I removed the application and contacted a local computer tech to get a recommendation for a better product. After install the CPU is running so much better without all of the McAffe virus/firewall applications running in the background.

my ping is only this high at night but when i wake up at 7am it is in the low 40 can anyone help?

Post a new thread. Tell us who your ISP is and what speed you paid to get.

Post your TCP Analyzer report. The link is at the bottom left of our main page.

Also, do a tracert to www,yahoo.com and post.

To do a tracert, click 'Start' and then 'Run'. Type "cmd" into the box and click 'ok'.

A DOS black screen will appear. Type after the C:\>

tracert http://www.yahoo.com

and press enter key

When test is completed, move mouse cursor to the DOS black screen, click right and choose 'select all'.

Move mouse cursor to the Quick Reply box of this forum, click right and 'paste'.

What is the brand and model of your router? You need to log into it to set MTU or MRU to 1492 and MSS to 1452.

Also, make sure your modem and router is placed a few feet away from each other and any other electrical device.

MTU, MRU and MSS should be under WAN settings. If there is only MTU, set it to 1492 and save and reboot your router.

Try the following with TCP Optimizer to see if your MTU can be increased:

General Settings tab:
Custom settings - check
Modify All Network Adapters - check
network adapter selection - your NIC
MTU 1500
TTL - 64
TCP Receive Window - leave blank
MTU Discovery - Yes
Black Hole Detect - No
Selective Acks - Yes
Max Duplicate ACKs - 2
TCP 1323 Options:
Windows Scaling - uncheck
Timestamps - uncheck

Advanced Settings tab:
Max Connections per Server - 10
Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 20
LocalPriority - 1
Host Priority - 1
DNSPriority - 1
NetbtPriority - 1
Lan Browsing speedup - optimized
QoS: NonBestEffortLimit - 0
ToS: DisableUserTOSSetting - 0
ToS: DefaultTOSValue - 80
MaxNegativeCacheTtl - 0

LAN Request Buffer Size - 32768
Then select "Apply Changes" and reboot to take effect

After reboot, post a new TCP Analyzer report.

The settings I gave are not yet for tweaks, only for trying to increase your MTU. Do a new TCP Analyzer to see if your MTU changes, then we can make tweak settings.

no it worked for about a week and now it is back in the 200-350 now is it because it is a wireless router and two computers are connect to it but please help and Thank You for the replays already
