Post by Iceman »

i have to run network cable from my router a level down. can the typical network cable be outside the house, about 15 feet of it? or will it harm the cable/be a threat in lightning storm?
Ice--who could have thought of a better invention?

There's CAT5 cable available for outdoor use.

I wouldn't worry about using regular CAT5. The cable glc1 is talking about is made to resist ultra violet deteriation. It's only 15 feet and it's not likely you will leave it there for 20 years.

Uhm it'll be fine I have about 200 feet of it running outside here fo about 2 years now in three differnt directions 90 ft of it runs overhead in direct sun, the birds sit on it all the time hasn't missed yet..
50 ft sits on the ground in the snow and rain..
The amount your running should be fine make sure it won't get a kink or be open to being pulled on or played with...
