@HOME UNCAPPED!?!?!
My friend recently got a brand new modem @home supplied and now he goes over 150KB a second uploading when i still go top 16KB a sec uploading because @home capped it at that but he uploads that fast.i live two blocks from him and they replaced his motorola cybersurfr with a TOSHIBA PCX1100 DOCSIS CABLE MODEM.HOW?!?! is it because @home uncapped him only or because the new modem allows him to do this? i want to know because if its the modem im going to get @home to come here and give me there new modem so i can upload that fast too.any answers would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think so.
I have @home and I have a Terayon Modem and I get around 200K upload but I think we are actually capped at either 200K or 250K.
I have some friends that also only have the 16K up but I'm not sure why thier upload is like that I have other friends that have the same upload I have.

@HOME Says that they cap you at 128k
I had a COM21 modem and could upload at 384k and now that I have a different modem SB3100 by GI my upload is back down to the 128k.
I think it has a lot to do with the modem myself and how it responds to @HOMES updates and how it is setup internaly as far as "capping" goes on upload.

@Home is NOT FAIR in their capping methods, this we know is true
I'm capped at 16KB/sec while my friend on the same service 5 minutes away can upload at 100KB/sec, and my other friend 5 minutes in the other direction can upload about 70KB/sec.
It's erratic and TOTALLY location dependent
some people are capped at the @home famous 16KB/sec that they are pushing, and others Aren't, some can get T1+ speeds on the upload...
it aint fair, i know, but alls we can do is complain complain complain and hope they don't terminate our service

If you really want to ruin your friends service then call, but I would just like to say. It is most likely a mistake that his modem is not capped, because it is a manual error that his upload is not capped. It occurs during the building of his acct. basically whoever built his acct did not choose the correct QOS or quality of service.

first id like to say im talking about kilobytes not bits and secondly i called @home and they said that they cap people at 128k upload and i asked kilobytes or kilobits and he said ummmm 128k,he didnt even know what it was!?! but he said i should be going fast than 16 kilobytes upload and my friend slower than 200k upload which was what i get off him now.now i ahve about 6 friends with @home,5 of us upload at 16k while the one goes 200k.he said it wasnt the modem but something else in the computer itself.i think hes just giving me BS.im gonna call back again and see what a new guy says.

he was also saying that my upload speed could have to do with traffic and the computer components and stuff.its all BS to me because ive never topped 16KB/sec uploading,even at 3 a.m. and i am always on 3 a.m. during the summer and weekends and my friends comp has less ram than me and an amd processor not intel like mine,now those are the only differences.if u go by that mine is better,he is also on a network with 2 other comps,his dad install some other crap on the main computer with the modem connected to it,if what he installed did help the upload speeds on the main computer,could it help the other two computers on the same network also?

Its modem dependant. The Motorola Routers are capped, hence the reason you guys with cybersurfrs are capped, but the DOCSIS systems have just started rolling out in most areas and when your swapped, your docsis is not capped whatsoever, but this WILL change eventually. I had a cybersurfr for over a year and it was never capped, but then the router was hit and now all motorolas in the area are dead 16KB/s. Just play with what you got now (those uncapped) and those who are, dont worry, we will be sometime soon as well.

PowerfullSquid, your computer/modem is not what's limiting you, @Home is. Brent is right, @Home is unfair w/their caps. Most are capped at 128kbps, however, some are capped much higher for whatever reason. I can u/l at 1mbps, or about 120KBps. BTW, 128kbps (kilobits per sec) equals 16KBps (kilobytes per sec).

I have a Com21 cable modem as well with @home so I know exactly how you all feel. I've been tweaking my registery every time I get a little hint as to how I can possibly sustain a somewhat close d/l and u/l speed. Of course with a cable modem that's virtually impossible but I'm starting to get it right. The fastest speed I've ever uploaded was about 120kbps. I download at around 350kbps as well. Anyone with the same modem getting a better u/l and d/l speed than I am please let me know.
yeah 128kbps = 16KB/sec
1Mbps = 125KB/sec
just take the Bits number and divide by 8 to get the Bytes number
or in reverse take the Bytes number and mulitply by 8 to get the Bits number

Yeah, I'm in the same situation as some of you guys. Fortunatly @home called last month for a scheduled DOCSIS upgrade. Before I was using the motorola cybersurfr and I was capped at 16KB/s upload. My dl varied at 150-200KB/s. After the upgrade to the RCA DOCSIS, my uploads seem uncapped. I get max so far 133KB/s and download around 350-450KB/s! It perfect timing too, because I was at the point of cancelling @home service all together.

ok... I have a nice cable line supposedly .. or well supposed to be getting a 730 kbps when I am only getting like 20k a sec which maybe 128 kbps.... and my fiber line.. heh I fixed it yesterday I focked up on the settings but restored them.. BUT REALLY... THIS CONNECTION ON THIS COMP SUCKS!!!!!! I hate it... only downloading 20k a sec when I should get more like 600k a sec all the way to 900 k a sec

Not necessarily... : http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/bandwidth.shtmlOriginally posted by cableman:
To be exact, 1 mbit=128KB/s because 1 mbit=1024 kbits =) And 1 kbit=1024 bits and so on..

The @home Technicain that came out to my hosue about a week ago was telling me all sorts of things going on with @home and his personal service for instance in central auburn they are running off the old cisco networks and are currentyl UNCAPPED he says he gets ground 300kb plus a seconds upstream! I was trying to ask him if a lancity modem is still compatible in this area so I could try and uncap it, He was telling me that he doesn't know but he networked him and the 3 next door neighbors all to his 1 cable modem, Needless to say I was very jealous. But my Main question is is the LCPET-2 or 3 compatible with @home's current service? I hear they are the only modems truly uncapable?

I have a product called Cox@Home Express and am getting 900Kbps down and 33.6 on telco return upstream. Cox will convert us to 2-way eventually and will be capped at 3Mbps down and 256k up. I am using a Motorola SB3100D modem.Originally posted by PowerfullSquid:
question,my friends IP starts with 65,is that an @home ip or not? i would think he has @home since they're the only shot of getting a cable modem around here.
Please take notice people if your only getting between 14K-16K downloads then your cable internet service is capped(limited, maxed out) by the office you can hook up every cable modem available it's not going to change the speed. As for as your friend goes he is probably lucky and they just haven't set the settings yet. More than likely if he's upping alot they 'll realize there mistake and cap his upload service. It has nothing to do with his modem. This has already been stated once I know but seems like sometimes things need to be said several times b4 people catch on. I've3 used a cyber surfer and now I own a terajet the both perform the same, even though the terajet has faster upload capabilities
