I previously had a Com21 cable modem, my upload was capped at 380kbps (50kbs or so), but it would require me to power cycle it about every day (unplug power cord plug back in) this got really annoying and sometimes it had to stay off a while. So I called up @HOME and they came out and gave me a new modem a Surfboard SB3100.
This modem has great download speeds but my upload is capped at 14kb, and also the worst problem out of all is I keep getting disconnected. Here is my problem.

At random intervals I get disconnected from the @HOME service, and I am forced to wait anywhere from 5seconds to 30seconds before I can start browsing \ downloading again. This is very bad because I have to restart my downloads, re-sign back on to AOL instant messanger and so on.. I am wondering if it is the modem or could be my lines?

Thats my info, and yes I have a splitter.
From my cable from the street it splits

One goes to the cable modem, and one goes to the TV's and \ amps in the house. The cable one just has cable and no amps or TVs.

--*note*-- the cable people said it may be to much power? they said they may have to dampen the lines? I have never hard of to much power?? any suggestions ideas please help this is very terrible to go through.

It could also be your network card to.Have them check that to.

I have tested different network cards, and a whole entire different PC. I have tried
Cable --> PC
Cable --> Switch --> PC
Cable --> Router --> Switch --> PC

They all cause the same problem so I know it is not my hardware,.. on my side at least.

Other suggestions... please the more the better!! This problem is the worst.. random disconnection sucks!!

i had the same problem w/ my @home modem the same week i got it. it turned out that in my area, they were almost to capacity, so they set it up that their servers would "randomly" disconnect users for a short period of time to keep their servers from crashing. they did finally upgrade all of their equipment, and now everything is fine. you might want to give your @home people a call and ask if they are doing anything like this. i doubt they will voluntarily tell you this info. w/o asking them first.

Ok I will call and ask them that, however I am not in the PA area. I am from Sacramento California...

welcome to sac@home. i just replied to another post about this same thing. the same thing happens to me. i think @home can't handle it, plus with the election traffic it has gotten way worse.

a few weeks ago it seemed to be getting better. now its bad again.

you say everything is fine in your State College area? well, i'm in state college too. Right now, they don't disconnect me anymore, but from around 1pm to 1am my pings in Soldier of Fortune go from 70 up to 900. my lowest pings during peak times are 500ms. They haven't "fixed" anything. they're just avoiding the problem. my gateway pings during these times are well over 150ms. i'm outside of town by 1 mile.

The problem sounds like dblduce suggests tho, that its a problem in the area. give them a call.
