Well, didnt get the job...

Post by Loonatic »

Got the call back.

The District Manager felt that I would be better suited as the uniformed door guard rather than the plain-clothes LP guy. Sounded reasonable, until he told me it was $4 less an hour. Started to cringe at that point. Then, I was told that the opening isnt at that store, but one 25 miles away.

Kiss my god damn ass. Turned it down in an instant. Why the hell for 1$ more an hour would I go 23 miles farther for a piss ass job like that?

I just dont see how I was more suitable as a door greeter than a LP guy. Was it becuase I didnt wear tight clothes to show off my muscles? I guess Im just really annoyed at that.

Oh give me a break :rotfl:

Im just way bummed that I didnt get it. I was really excited for this, been studying up in my books about liability, etc and even enrolled in a Loss Prevention course. My buddy personally knows one of the interviewing managers and said he really liked me, and told him he'll get to be training me, etc. I had high expectations that I was going to get it, and now this let down.

Anyways, typing that out let me vent my frustration.

I agree, it sucks when you know your qualified and they give you some bs to try to apeaze you and offer you something different.
But look at it this way, if they have that mental attitude your probably better off not working there.

Yea I figure that much. Michigan is just horrible for the job market too, and making $6 an hour at the age of 20 just sucks.

What about security at the college? Of course I'm assuming SE Michigan is near Ann Arbor?

Yea, keyboards are not listed as a lethal weapon yet, as far as I know. I would MUCH rather see that in your hand, than any of the others.

Hi Loonatic

Rather than get angry you should simply have asked Why? What is it that you feel makes me more suitable in one job than another. Least that way you can try to correct that perception for next time.

If Security is what you want to do take a night class, and gain some qualifications that will make it harder for them or someone else to overlook or turn you down.

Don't set yourself up for disappointment by counting on something till the facts are in and the decision is made.

You will never win them all, so apply to several Companies that need that type of help and with a good resume and some classes you will no doubt be able to find something.

The idea suggested of applying at a nearby College is a good one as they normally pay rather well i think.

Good luck :)

No worries, when one door closes another one opens. Before long you'll have a job that will be better than either.

Thanks everyone else who offered some constructive advice :)

I guess I just really had my eyes set on this. I had a friend who works there, who is good friends with the manager, etc.

It just really threw me for a loop. But like you guys said, theres more out there, I just have to find it. :)

It seems pretty simple... he took one look at you and knew you weren't appropriate for the job.

Too much thread craping. I suppose I'll have to get out the rubber gloves and the Mr. Clean and fix it all.

Locked untill that's done.

Sorry to hear that. $6 an hour? Fed minimum wage in MI is $7.40 from what I found. Might want to check into that.
