Napster/Road Runner/ Linksys

I noticed in the review by Brent and Vorpal that both had trouble downloading Napster files with the Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router. I'm planning to get one for my upcoming RR installation. Is this a mistake as downloading Napster files is something we do.

It works fine with me. You just cant download from people that have firewalls and there arent a lot of people with them (hardware of course).

I'd go w/ Netgear or Umax, as the Linky seems to have the most issues of the consumer routers. :)

Well, I agree in the past the LinkSys had some issues, but the new beta firmwares are looking real good. I have had mine for quite some time and each firmware revision seem to fix one thing and break another. I think with the next official release they should have most issues tidied up.
The beta fimwares are easy to get also. I wouldn't rule it out. I like mine alot.....

BTW, I have no problem with Napster. Maybe they didn't forward the port through to their workstation. I know that if you don't forward the port it will cause issues. You could also set your workstation as the DMZ machine. Then its the same a not having the LinkSys between your modem and that machine.

True. I couldn't get 90% of my downloads to start until I forwarded the 6699 port that Napster uses. Now it works fine with my Linksys Router.
