DSL/Router issue
DSL/Router issue
Hi guys,
I am having a little difficulties with my DSL Modem and router.
I have my DSL Modem goes into my DLink DL614+ Router. With PPPoE configured, everything has been working fine for a long time. However starting few days ago, my connection from my Router to computer is cutting off constantly. I have checked the settings, everything seems fine. When i check the IP address in networking properties, it will show 192.168.2.1 which is the IP to the modem. It will not change until i reset the router. Once i reset the router, it changes back to 192.168.0.101.
I am not sure whether that has something to do with the disconnection. I would like to see if anyone can give me a hand here before i run out and grab a new router :P
Thanks for any help in advance!
Chris

I bet the Speedstream is already running NAT for you (seems like it..if the WAN interface of your own router is getting a 192.address)...and the Speedstream is already running PPPoE for you..in which case you don't want to run it a second time on your own router.
What I do on my setups, is either flip the ISP supplied unit to pure bridged mode..and let my own router be the only device doing NAT and PPPoE, or...let the ISP supplied unit run the NAT and PPPoE..and connect an access opint to it..or reconfigure a wireless router to be the access point.

I tried the second option, have my router set as Dynamin IP. The disconnection still happening, but not as often. is there any other settings i should be aware of in the router?
THanks!

I had a similar problem with a Linksys router/ap. The dsl modem and the router had an IP address conflict. Linksys has an automatic setup utility on their website that solved it. The modem stayed at 192.168.1.1, and the router went to 192.168.2.1 and continued to supply dhcp service, but not PPPoE. I was going to try bridge mode, but I needed to upgrade firmware on the modem, and the previous option seemed quicker (and it worked)!
