Trying to get Satellite Tv

Post by tHE_0ne »

I currently have Cox cable, regular basic cable with free hbo (techie removed filter for free b/c I gave him a beer on the job).

I have a DishNetwork Box my Uncle Gave me thinking about getting dishnetwork and setting it up myself. Anyoen have any experience with this? I hear I might need to repoint my Satellite to find a right signal?

OLD owner of my house had a Satellite system installed, see below, How does everything look?

Hi tHE_0ne

I have Dish Network also. I've had it for several years now and never have had to readjust the Dish.

If you need to do so there is a Setup Menu on the receiver that gives you a Signal Strength reading and if strong your in business. If not a pair of Walkie Talkies or Cell Phones and a Friend is the way to go.

One stays inside and the other adjusts the Dish and locks it down when the signal is as good as it is going to get. The Manual explains it all.

Good luck

My dad has a meter that he hooks into the cable and it tells him what the signal strength is. Not sure how much it costs, but you can get it at Radio Shack I believe.

If the previous dish was set up for Dish Network and you have a Dish Network receiver, your good to go. You just have to call Dish Network to activate the receiver, or they might have to send you a new access card. But you should still get the preview channels to test and see if you get a signal. You can also go into your options and see what kind of signal strength you are getting. If that dish is set up for Directv then yeah, you'll need to re-align it for Dish Network.

The One,

I would really take that first pick off and replace it with one without the bootloaders and emulation tools on the top. You want to point your dish at these coordinates

Azimuth -- 165°

Elevation -- 44°

to get your 165° Azimuth ga and get yourself a cheap compass with the degree markings on the face.

It can get fustrating aiming a dish. Also if that dish you already have installed is not a dish network dish you will want to get the correct LNB for it. The LNB will bolt up to the dish without any problems.

Rivas,

If you want HD from Dish Network you will have to upgrade both the receivers and the Dish. The dish will have 3 LNBs and it will be more of an oval dish. You will also need a HD receiver for it to produce HDTV. I do also beleive that right now Dish Network Has the most HD channels verses any other cable or satellite provider.

Thanks
I'm using bell not dn
FOR HD you can use Dish 6000, Dish 411, ViP 211 and ViP 622 DVR ...are they old models or newer ones ?
I guess all the channels are encrypted correct?

I'm surprised satellite TV still uses cards, would think they would set it so the units have a built in code or number, and only ones registered with the provider would work. This card stuff seems liek they want people to steal it.

they have built in codes (cam id) its actually hard to hack but once its hacked its easy to run.

tHE_0ne if i was running a system i dont think i would be throwing up pics of card programmer and atmegas. treat it as a hobby an you'll get results.

I was going to post a link to that thread, but the SG search results for "bullsh|t" were too numerous

sometimes you have to think outside the box to get inside the box ;).

Yeah, they had those type of receivers for the bigger 6' dishes. Main reason why they all went with access cards and whatnot.

See they need to tell if more than 1 of a code is in use, and only activate them when people call to sign up. Need a program in the middle somewhere saying nope, u didnt pay, no tv!

Yeah, a friend of mine and I setup a dish inside his house BUT had to replace the window pane with plexiglass, works like a charm.

I hope its for Dish Network, not Direct Tv or anything like that, the dish is about 5-8years old.
