Windows not loading.

Post by mmione »

When I turn on my computer, it doesnt ever get into windows, it stays at the part where there is a windows logo and that bar with the moving little thing. I thought maybe it was loading something but after 2 hours, it was still doing that. I can boot into safe mode and I dont really know what to do now? Im pretty sure it isnt a hardware problem as I can get into safe mode. Any one have any ideas?

yep my thoughts exactly.. I've seen that after a update.. go into safe mode remove any last software or drivers you just updated and then try booting. Do one at a time since its prob only one that just started the problem.

Can you boot into safe mode? If so choose the option "Last known good configuration", if that doesn't work boot into safe mode and uncheck anything that you don't need to have Windows boot.

Are you running WinXP? If so...run system restore..choose an RP the day before it blew up. If that doesn't work..choose an RP before that.

Bah..me blind!

Whelp...there's always recovery console, chkdsk /r
Or doing a re-install on top
Or restoring the HIVE manually (yuck)

OK, if you can boot into safe mode then it's not a bad hard drive or other faulty hardware. Most likely it's a bad driver loading or corrupt program. Once you are in safe mode go to start - run msconfig and uncheck any programs you don't need to load Windows. If that doesn't work boot into safe mode and disable your device drivers one by one until you find the one causing the issue, the most common are your video drivers.
