US Intervention: A mod for BF2.

Post by JawZ »

I highly approve of this mod. If you liked DC....this is the one for you.

Here is a quick vid I made on lunchbreak from work.

http://dissidentfiles.com/jaws/movies/USI.wmv

That's just 3 maps and very little content shown. they have many more maps and tons of content that I didn't have time to show.

I also posted about about this mod in the Main forum but wasn't sure if you all read those. Basically USI is a mod for BF2 with 7 brand new maps. All the maps are great....especially 73 Eastings. If you're a fan of Desert Combat, you'll be in love. I suggest you all try it out. It has it's bugs and inbalances but it's a spectacular first release. If you have likes and dislikes about it, got to the devs website and let them know. They seem to encourage the comments.

Played for a bit, man wahtever map i was on was def an a10/apache map, doesnt help that im still use to bf42 style so i kept spawnign and dying LOL

Iraq tanks take a second to get use to with all the markings. Lots of action.

Gotta play around with the audio settings, all I hear are the air vehicles coming, never hear the tanks.

Yes we have a server but it's not getting much action cause we're too busy scrimming regular BF2. I suggest FMJ or XMN. there is so much cool stuff in this mod...stinger kits are really great, the music in some areas is awesome....and health cabinets are back in the game!!!!!!!!!!!! Tanks have haet and sabot rounds ala POE, the choppers have locked on missiles via the pilot which is cool...while the gunners in both helos have zoom. Zoom is also available in tanks.

dude, just get in there lol. Use your zoom to get on the tanks from a distance. You don't have to aim to far above them to hit them. Of course, use the heat rounds on infantry areas and small vehicles....bodies will fly everywhere. Anti-tank kits are powerful in this mod. the RPG's really kick ass. and the maps give them lots of areas to hide in...it's really a good mod for a first release. Way better than I expected and from what I hear....DCon is very worried and should be. some of their stuff has not been turning out good at all. their MLRs is a friggin joke. The other great thing....almost every server has a USI dev in it and they take any and all criticisms....they already have a good list of some minor tweaks to inject into their next release. this is really a surprise hit. I knew this mod was going to be good but not this good. Everything seems to be well balanced except for one map....the US main spawn on Basrah Streets needs to become a double spawn group because the Iraqi side loves to come in and spawn camp. It get frustrating quick. Best thing to do right now to counter it is to climb up on top of an adjacent building and toss nades down, you'll kill your own but you'll clear out the enemy....and you'll get thanked for doing it.

I often wonder if the voices in my head ever get frustrated because I'm just too damn lazy to climb that clock tower.

Well, it all depends on your key binds and how you set them up.

Zoom in tanks for me is the spacebar which is bound to the pop smoke command/key bind. Zoom with kits like the RPG and the Stinger is Q which is common controls alt-fire. Pop smoke, sabot and heat rounds in tanks are all selected by using the mouse wheel for me. To zoom in the helo-gunners position....it's alt-fire for me using the mouse (right click).

i played a few hours of this mod this weekend, reminds me of the good old days of DC, plays almost the same and not as squad based as BF2 as far as i can tell.

the A-10 can really wreak havok if you have a good pilot in there, those bombs that scatter the things that sparkle really are cool and cause tons of damage.

that one map called road of destruction, i think that is the name, really is unbalanced as the USA tends to end up camping on the other sides main spawn base.

much fun so far :)

Do you have to launch this by ip? I see no .exe anywhere in the USI folder, only an icon file.

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF21.exe" +modPath mods/USI +playerName ****** +playerPassword ****** +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

This is my shortuct minus my username and password of course.....I also renamed the BF2.exe file to BF21.exe to get better performance. Your mileage with that tweak may vary. ;)

(1) install it to the C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods folder, or
change to where ever you have BF2 installed.

(2) play game

USI released a hotfix to be 100% compatible with the new BF2 1.3 patch.

Here is a server IP for a KNOWN USI patched server:

62.75.204.222:16567

If you still CTD.....then you MUST put your textures to MEDIUM in the video options. This doesn't mean put them on low because low causes CTD also...it's a known bug in USI. Textures must be on medium.
