User account problems in XP

Post by mmione »

I only have one user account in XP but I have a password set so I have to type it in when I log on. However, when there are multiple user accounts I can switch user and my programs stuff will still be open but it is sort of locked. Is there a way I can sort of "log out" but my programs will still be open and I can relogin and everything is where I left it if I only have one user account on this computer?

Thanks.

Should still be able to use the log off feature like if you had multiple accounts.

Disable fast user switching, so as to get the ctrl+alt+del login/off

When you're done, and you wish to lock your workstation, just hit your Windows key plus the "L" key.

Isnt fast user switching what he wants? you switch users and then it sits logged in at the welcome screen?

I think he just wants to secure his rig by "locking workstation". He said he only has one account, so fast user switching really doesn't come into play...it's really just a GUI way of having several users being able to lock their session.

Plus....just hitting the Windows key and the L key..is by far literally the fastest way to lock workstation and walk away. Locking workstation leaves your programs open/running as is also.

also disable Secondary logon service and then uncheck "use welcome screen" in Users: change the way users logon and logoff.
