My Car Hates Me.....

So I finished installing an intake in my car..........As I am tightening the - battery terminal, the ratchet slips from my hand, makes contact on the + terminal, and friggin sparks fly everywhere. I freaked out, go to turn on the car, and to my relief,it starts up.............but to my dismay, NONE OF MY ACCESSORIES WORK!

GPS, alarm, radio, windows, door locks, dome lights NOTHING!!! Only thing that works are the headlights and the turn signals!

I checked the fuses for the nonworking accessories, and they were fine, so I am stumped!!

Thank God for warranties.....

Why were you messing with the battery in the first place? Was it a CAI? If you still have warranty I would make this thread dissappear if I were you.

I disconnect the battery to reset the ECU..... also, the K&N instructions mention to disconnect it......it's also habit of mine when I install intakes on my cars. And it's a K&N Cai and my car is still under the factory warranty. Gonna have to drop it off tomorrow morning and get a loaner, which will hopefully be a Chevy SSR

There is a fuse you can take out to reset the ECU also. Sometimes it will auto reset itself. I don't disconnect the battery cable till last resort.

Sounds like you blew a fuse or relay.

Why are you installing an intake on a slow car?

LMAO @ Loon! After I installed the custom PCM from Westers Garage and now with the intake, I'm now pushing about 310 ponies!

KM, the fuse box on the Trailblazers is a pain to get to (underneath the seat, then you need to unscrew a box to get to it), so it's easier to just loosen the battery terminal and let it sit for 1/2 hr. Next time, I'll just pop the fuse

What sucks is, that the relays are solid in color, so I can't tell which one is bad or not!!

Put big rims on it yet to loose more speed of a dead stop start yet too?

Yeah, I still have the stock all season rubber which are not that great. No rims yet, still the stock 17" alloys. Power is @ 6K

I was guesstimating, since I know that stock, the TB get's it's max power @ 6K. I'll call the guys up at Westers Garage to see if this custom PCM places the power at a lower RPM.

I already had to send it back, since it caused my ABS light to come on....turns out, they had a bad batch of disks! lol

You probably blew one of the master fuses in the engine bay (the big ones!).

make sure you re-install your stock air intake when you take it back or your car will be black listed.

Hey crack smoker, the seat has a flip leaver, takes all of about 6 seconds to gain full access to the underseat fuse box. Reach between the seat back and seat bottom cushions and pull the the cloth tag like material and it will lift right up from back to forward. There is also a fuse box under the hood and if I remember correctly two under the dash.

The relays in that thing are damn near indestructible, doubtful you damage any of them. Look in the under hood fuse box at the maxi fuses and next time disconnect the negative cable not the positive.

Nah, I spoke to girl at the service desk, and I let her know that I was planning on upgrading my intake, and she said that was fine, as long as it doesn't cause whatever problem it is that they're troubleshooting.

And Sid, I did disconnect the - battery terminal!

There is one fuse box underneath the hood, and one underneath the rear drivers side seat and both need have 2 covers, one of which is held down by 4 screws.

Dude, I used to fix those when I worked for Chevy. I meant disconnect the negative battery cable. That way you won't weld your tools if you touch something ground.

The rear seat fuse box has squeeze clips to remove the cover and the one under the hood uses a thumb screw. I can't count how many covers I have pulled off on the under seat boxes. We had to disable the lift gate module while programming the pcm or they wouldn't flash right. GM never uses screws on fuse boxes.

I guess things changed for the '05 Trailblazer, because in the rear seat, there's a large cover, you lift that, then there's another cover that's held down by 3 screws, and you need to loosen them in order to access the fuses.

For the fusebox in the engine bay, there's a cover on top that has 2 squeeze clips, then when you take that one off, there's another cover with 4 screws that need to be loosened before you can access the fuses.

I do know that in the '05, engine components changed, as well as some other things, like the switch to digital Onstar. I haven't found an '05 service manual yet, would like to though.

Think...Fusible links.

Usually a few wires also connected directly to the positive side of the battery, along with the main power/strarter cable. These wires usually contain fusuble links (thinner easy to burt out) wires. you can tell fairly quickly if they are burnt out by pinching them between your thumb and forefinger feeling for the lack of wire under the sheathing.

very common on Japanease cars. maybe GM has moved to them as well?

Good ol american cars, gotta love em. Did you at least get to haul a lil azz with the K&N on? That is one easy upgrade that most of the time you can notice immediately.

Oh yeah, and since it removes the factory resonator, that sucker is LOUD once you step on it! Scared a few ricers on my way to church this morning

Took it to the dealership this morning, and they confirmed that it was the Body Control Module that shorted out. The guy tells me "I hope you weren't pulling fuses all night trying to figure it out"

They had no loaners, so they sent me to Enterprise and I got a POS Chevy Classic

Oh well, at least I don't have to pay for it, and next time I know to use gloves when working in the cold
