Dual CPU boards
Dual CPU boards
I am going to be building a new system for myself mostly for work and I would like to go dual proc. I would like to make sure I could waste hours of precious work time playing kick @ss games on it also (insert evil laugh here).
I have been doing a bit of research since I have only ever built one dual cpu system before and that was about three or four years ago, & it was for CAD.
I was looking at the Iwill line, probably the DN800-L board but if any of you guys have some good first hand knowledge about what is working and what sucks pleas let me know. The real purpose for this system is gamming . . . err I mean video editing.

I looked at the usual motherboard manufacturer, Asus, Giabyte, Abit, but nothing from them had the PCie slots.

Get a dual core CPU, it's the same thing, and cheaper, and there are plenty of mobos for them with PCIe. Either the Pentium 4 D series or EE if you got the cash, or the Athlon X2 series. I'd recommend the P4 D or EE series for video editing.
Dual core does nothing for game performance though, games just aren't out yet that can take advantage of them, but a fast 3.4 D or EE will play them nicely if you get a good graphics card. And on that note if you are doing video editing I recommend the Radeon X1900 series, with the latest drivers they support superior transcoding acceleration.

If i were you id opt for the cheapest x2 with dual 1mb cache and then OC. My x2 3800 runs rock solid at 2.5ghz.Izzo wrote:X2 4400![]()
