newegg x2 and how i screwed myself :(

Post by A_old »

bought new system from them: 1411 and some change
threw out boxes: free
found out video card is bad (doesn't run at stock speeds w/ out memory artifacts): 3 days of tinkering
ask newegg for rma: they decline because i do not have the box
frustration that new video card is bad and i can't get another one without going through evga and being WITHOUT MY FUGGING CARD WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF A PROJECT: priceless.

word from amro: do not throw out your boxes..yes, it's my fault and i accept that, but it really sucks that they can't make the exception. sort of disappointed, actually.

[edit]: VERY DISAPPOINTED

evga 7800 GT ? odd, i haven't heard of any problems with those, you must have got a defective one or it must have gotten damaged in shipping maybe, fan works and all that? good contact between heatsink memory and GPU?

At least it was a video card...I bought a laptop from Dell as a gift for someone for x-mas. Without thinking I threw away the boxes...next thing I know the person does not want the laptop, and I don't have a need for it, no biggy I will just return it--then I thought OH CRAP THE BOXES!!!! Luckily I was able to do a little dumpster diving and recover the torn, oil/food stained boxes and shipped it back. I guess they will take it back if they have the boxes, don't know if I would have as the condition of the box was very very poor and a little smelly but equipment was ok.

I would guess you could order a 2nd card and use the box from that and ask for a refund once you have proof that you ordered a 2nd card to replace it. If not, then I'd work on MFG asking for a advance rma

I keep boxes too. I am way too much of a pack rat.

Hard to buy for someone who turns down a new laptop..

definately a bad one..supposed to do 470/1100 (it's what it's set to stock)..but newegg's site says 445/1070, doesn't do either w/ out texture corruption/artifacts

I'd check your consumer rights carefully re the packaging. Over here you buy the product and returning it doesn't depend on having the box it came in. The same might apply over there and they just trying to pull a flanker. Worth your while to check it.

called again..they will not do it, i even have the bar code, but they want the WHOLE box. screw them, at this point. the one time i have a problem, after spending thousands (LITTERALLY) with them, they're unwilling to go without a little cardboard, even though i'm providing a way for them to verify the card w/ the serial # from the box. evga will not cross ship. i'm quite pissed..on top of that my sister's car broke down so i have to go help her an hour away and b/c of that i'm going to miss a meeting for graduation..WONDERFUL.

Simply call or email the actual manufacturer of the card and explain the situation and I bet they will replace it.

wanted to point out a little irony in this: this is the first time i've not kept the box b/c 1) we just moved into an appt and there isn't much room and 2) i've never received a bad part when ordering a new product..

i know it. i overnighted the new card (30 bucks! that's as much as it cost me to ship the whole system before!!!) so i'd have enough time to get the old one to them again..i'm paying the shipping both ways but i'm fine w/ it..i just want one that works :)
